    I'd rather sit up on the roof with a lawn chair, cooler, and fruity rum drink, and watch the fireworks.

    earth birmed is logical and why people hate logic i do not understand. and yes you can have windows even miles underground. there called pariscopes. two mirors in an air shaft.
    actual caves are expensive to build though, i mean making the hole, unlss you can have or use land with a natural one.
    never had the opportunity myself. and then there's the insanity of a uniform building code.

    What's wrong with using a coal, gold, copper, tin, bauxite etc, etc mines ???

    same thing as with natural caves actually. its not like there's that many of them, and an unmaintained abondond mine is likely less stable and more dangerous then a natural cave.
    and of course if it isn't abondond, there's a chance of getting run over. also most mines these days are open at the top. safer for people working in them,
    but doesn't actually provide a whole lot more shelter than out in the open.
