The undisputed rules of Atlantic City is the towns treasurer, Enoch Nucky Thompson played by Steve Buscemi a political fixer and backroom dealer who is equal parts politician and gangster and equally comfortable in each role. The town is a hub of illegal activities like rum-running and Nucky Thompson is taking full advantage. Along with his brothers one being the towns Sheriff and a gang of local thugs Nucky carves out a niche for himself as the man to see for anything alcohol related. As the first episodes unfold we meet Nucky's protégé and former driver Jimmy Darmody played by Michael Pitt, returns home from war, eager to get ahead and claim his place in Nucky's crime organization. However when things turn bad between Jimmy and Nucky, Nucky set's the FEDS on Nucky's tail and forms his own gang. Created by Terence Winter, Boardwalk Empire is executive produced by Terence Winter and the one and only Martin Scorsese. Other Executive producers include Mark Wahlburg, Tim Van Patten and Stephen Levinson Boardwalk Empire is inspired by portions of the non fiction book "Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High of Atlantic City, written by Nelson Johnson. The pilot episode was directed by Martin Scorsese and he is expected to continue to be creatively involved in the ongoing production. On September 1, 2009, HBO picked up the series for an additional 11 episodes, making the first season 12 episodes long, including the pilot. It is expected that the series will debut in late 2010 Airs Sept , 19 9pm.......................
