i think i might have been one of those that gave up on it in the middle. i really don't remember much about it, except that i found it extremely boring. i don't even remember there being a good part, which is why i think i may have quit before it got that far.

My take on this movie is that it was severely flawed in places but it was genuinely scary and atmospheric. Groundbreaking even for its time. I am yet to watch it again and I may change my mind. After all, some things just don't stand the test of time...

My opinion hasn’t changed over the past 2 years or for that matter over the past 22 years since I first saw the movie.

What I enjoyed the most was the realistic look and feel to the movie.

Btw The movie had a budget of $300,000 and it made $250,000,000

I know a lot of people are not a fan of this movie, but I love this movie! :) Believe it's what got me to like Found Footage Horror Movies. It was filmed in Maryland and I'm originally from Maryland, so I was excited to see it when it came out in theaters. :)

The House is real or I should say it was real. It was built in the mid 1800s and located in Maryland,

It was set to be demo'd shortly after filming but protesters filed a temporary restraining order to stop the demolition.

The protesters eventually lost their court case and the state leveled the house.

Ahhh that would be a neat house to live in out in the middle of nowhere!!

It did have power at one point right?

Yes, I know the house was originally on private property, so I assume once it was abandoned the state took over the land by eminent domain which included the house,
and incorporated it into the state park which abutted the property.

Seems to me the house could have made the state millions of dollars as a tourist attraction, but they opted out for the simpler solution

This movie scared the absolute fuck out of me! I haven’t seen it for years, will have to give it another go to see if it still does.
The camera work made it seem so much more real.
