Wrong Saddam was still a threat to his own people! The people of Iraq could never be free while his regime remained in power, and when Saddam died waiting to take power were his evil sons Uday and Qausay. The only way that regime could ever have been overthrown and democracy brought to Iraq was by outside military action.
Stop changing the subject when you know you're fucked. You made a comparison between Saddam and Hitler, implying that Saddam was a threat to the West, which clearly he wasn't.
Well secret intellegence reports from two years ago suggested that he was a threat! It was only after the regime had been ousted that a proper thorough search of Iraq could be done for WMD. If you remember the reason weapons inspectors were withdrawn was because Saddam was found to be spying on them so he knew in advance where they were going. That made the UN inspections useless as if he had banned weapons they could have been simply moved before the inpsectors got to the location they wanted to search! There was also some sort of pact between Al Qaeda and Iraq as why did Al Qaeda never attack Iraq or even threaten to do so? And why was one of the 1993 World Trade Centre terrorists allowed to stay in Iraq after fleeing to Bagdad? Also why did Iraqi secret service agents have contact at all with Al Qaeda members. I am of the opinion - no smoke without fire. There were simply too many alleged contacts between the Iraqi regime and Al Qaeda for them all to have meant nothing. If you still dont believe toppling Saddam was right then read this quote:
Yeah, that proved to be well founded, huh? Again though, you're attempting to change the argument because you know you've lost. WMDs are not the same thing as a comprehensive military threat as implied by your Hitler analogy. Oh my god! Al Qaeda never threatened to attack Norway! Invade Norway!!! Invade Norway!!! Even the American government have accepted that there's no link between Al Qaeda and Saddam. You're a bit behind the times here. Maybe if your evidence is so convincing, you should offer it to the Whitehouse? Yes, that's pretty much the heights of intellectual reasoning that we've come to expect from you.
I have had a look at the source of that quote... you omitted to put that the person writing it was from Texas.... Nuff Said! I have been on nearly all of the demo's against the Iraq War... and have met people actually from Iraq... especially the group of Iraq Women that were marching alongside us... and also giving talks on what it is / was like in Iraq. I am inclined to listen to them over some anonymouse bloke from Texas. Treehouse, I actually agree with you that oppressive regimes are wrong. But this war wasn;t about that at all. Once the elections have taken place... the US will disappear never to be seen again apart from to pick up there money from all the Iraq businesses they have taken over! The people they have in place in the new Iraq Government are some of the people involved in the previous oppressive regime.
Are the women you speak of http://www.womeninblack.net/mission.html i admire what they do..if they are. I don't suppose 'just following orders' means a hell of a lot does it ??.
So are you suggesting that we should also invade Saudi Arabia because of their human rights record? Or how about China ... or Zimbabwe ... or any one of the scores of other countries that abuse the rights of their citizens but don't make the press everyday?
You know what the typical pro-war-ist's arguement against that is though don't you? 'Well, that's not to say they shouldn't invade that country anyway though is it? That deosn't mean we should let off Saddam/whoever'. Well, it may or may not but ultimately why should we support the invaders in question who are clearly being very, very hypocritical anyway?
Yea, he wasn't a threat to the west because him, France, Germany and Russia were making illegal money off the oil for food program., Sorry, I know I'm not British but I felt the need to reply to that.
Don't apologise for not being British, we've already forgiven you (j/k) Could you elaborate or give a source for that info? Just interested Thanks Cx
But have you met any ex political prisoners who were tortured by Saddam. Up until the end of the war thousands of political prisoners languished in Iraqi jails many had been tortured in the most horrific way or severely beaten. Many families had lost relatives who had been imprisoned by Saddam and tortured or beaten to death. You simply don't know what is like to live in a totalitarian state. Human rights abuses alone justified the war. OK so Britain and America have ingored many other harsh regimes, but could you look an Iraqi torture victim in the eye and tell him you don't think Saddam should have been overthrown? Read up on some history the Baath party was originally socialist with ties to the Soviet Union. I have explained before how it degenerated under Saddam's leadership. Rather like the Bolshivik party of Russia degenerated under Stalins leadership. Most of the original former Baathists from when the party was founded like Allawi who now rules Iraq aboslutly hated Saddam. In fact there was an assasination attempt on his life by Saddams' agents after he fled to Britain many years ago. But he loathed America and Israel, that was well known. Also the fact that he was squandering money intended to help the Iraqi people in the oil for food programme was an other reason why he should have been ovethrown! The Iraqi people were cheated out of billions intended to help them.
I saw a girl of about nine who'd had all her limbs blown off by a US bomb. Could you look her in the eye and tell her you thought her pain was a price worth paying?
I would tell her at least her injuries were accidental. I would also tell her that Saddam was now overthrown so no more people will be deliberatly tortured to death by Saddams thugs who have waged a 25 year reign of terror against their own people! I would tell her that all the political prisoners are now free and so don't have to spend years in filthy cells under the threat of being beaten or tortured to death. I would tell her that Saddam and his henchmen are now due to stand trial for crimes against humanity. Crimes in which hundreds of thousands died and hundreds of thousands more were imprisoned beaten, tortured and mutilated.
Well I'm sure that'd make her feel a lot better as she struggled to live out the rest of her life as a deformed cripple. Now that you've made it perfectly clear that you consider the lives of children to be a life worth paying, I think we can safely say that you're a deluded fanatic who's so infatuated with his own propaganda that he's incapable of feeling any compassion for the suffering of others. It's lunatics like you that make the world such a dangerous place in the first instance. Nobody likes you here. Why don't you go and find some other people to play with?
what treehouse is not saying that at all... your true colours come out at last i knew it. So treehouse has no right to speak on a free and open forum merely because most don't share the same opinion hahahh see knew you felt this way before you repeat yourself hahah whatever dude... being a nobody, i like treehouse
Well that's what it sounded like he was saying to me. "There there never mind, you may have lost your arms and legs but that nasty Saddam has been overthrown and we now live in a much safer world that's guarded by us" ... Patronising bullshit. No other words for it.
Well again Dok uses a portion of what is said that fits with the answer he is giving.. I figure Treehouse is not as devious as Dok (being set upon by him, i know ) so does not carefully tailor the response so it is with out traps that Dok can pick upon. Dok turned a more than likely honest decent caring person into a blood soaked heartless git (that nobody likes)..wich i doubt is true.
