Cake scene. I don't think strict is quite the word for it. Controlling, repressive, possessive - I mean, stable can be argued - but this was no ordinary woman.
I'll watch it again. I have a better quality version now. She just seemed like a mother concerned about her daughter, who was appearing to go off the rails and fucking her life up, that's all. I can't remember the cake scene. Her mother might have been those things you said, but she wasn't crazy.
Interesting ideas about the mother/daughter relationship.. One theory I have heard presented is that her mother was sexually abusing her. The moment that seems to confirm this to some (although not necessarily to myself, I still think it's ambiguous), is the imagined sex scene between Nina and Lily. Near the end of it, Lily says something to Nina that some people say sounds like "sweet girl," which is what her mother calls her. Whether or not this is accurate, I disagree that her mother was just a normally protective mother.. Whatever the details are, it was obvious that her mother had major issues that directly affected Nina's transformation.
I really hope this gets best picture, but i doubt it will :'( sads. And if Natalie does not get the oscar i give up on the academy awards.
Awesome, I'll check out the link later tonight. Rented Inception the other day... AWESOME f*cking movie. Worth buying for sure. I almost watched it twice in a row, but only made it thru the beginning and realizing what actually happened. Inception is a pretty good mindbender. Hope Black Swan can meet the par.
No lol I did too... I just lol'd reading that. I laughed at the noise that came out of her mom when she slammed her hand in the door too and a few other moments I can't remember ATM There was a thread on IMDB about all the scenes in the movie that probably weren't meant to be funny but you laughed anyway... some good ones in there too hahaha

i loved it..i mean, first , i was a bit scared after watching it, but then i really fell in love with this movie. my rating for Black Swan is 10/10. It's been a long time since a movie like this has come out. and Natalie Portman was simply awesome. i have become a fan of hers. she really deserved the Oscar she got.
i agree. this was on the back of my mind and now that you've explained it this way, i totally agree with you.
I didn't care too much what it or anyone involved won, simply because Vincent Cassel wasn't even fucking nominated for best supporting actor.
i fuckin loved it. ive known alot of girls like her who feel they need to be the best and who push push push so i could really feel for her as she freekin snaped
