I'm sure you fine folks have heard this already but I thought it was good theater and entertaining on many levels. "“If you do not listen … your event will be shut down,” one of the protesters told organizers, who offered to let them speak after Sanders. After a back and forth with the screaming protesters, organizers relented and said the demonstrators could go first. Some in the largely white audience booed and chanted for protesters to let the senator talk. A few yelled for police to make arrests. Marissa Johnson, one of the protesters, shot back, “I was going to tell Bernie how racist this city is, filled with its progressives, but you did it for me,” accusing the audience of “white supremacist liberalism.” She cited Seattle’s own police problems, including an ongoing Justice Department consent decree over use of force. The activists demanded 4½ minutes of silence in memory of Brown, to symbolize the 4½ hours his body lay on a Ferguson street. While rally organizers raised their hands in support, some in the crowd yelled profanities. After the few minutes of silence, the protesters said they wanted to confront Sanders for failing to address their concerns when he was similarly interrupted at a town hall for liberal activists in Phoenix last month. Johnson beckoned Sanders to stand closer as she spoke — he refused." http://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/politics/black-lives-matter-protesters-shut-down-bernie-sanders-rally/ I support Sanders, think police should be held accountable more than they are, and like a bit of political theater. Think the two girls just let their emotions get ahead of them and could've handled it differently, but hey, we've all had weird, shrill moments, right?
This is nuts. Why are they picking on Bernie Sanders of all people? The protesters seems to not only have the attitude of "of course we're right, and there will be no debate" but also "our issue must take precedence over all others". Fuck these people, I'm so sick of them.
This is what happens when you give any person or group of people enough privledge to stay cemented to victim mentlaities and victim status. As far as Bernie Sanders goes, he voted atleast 18 times to keep raising the debt ceiling, which means his decisions aren't going against the ultra rich, but is in fact benefiting them. Think about it.
This event destroyed Sanders. Nobody could possibly want a world leader who can be so easily sidelined by a couple of rude, clearly racist people who did nothing more than get on stage and yell. Where was security? Bernie actually looked scared and feeble. Can you imagine him in the same room with Putin? Or with Mugabe? Or with Queen Elisabeth? It's totally weird to me that the democrats only seem to have 2 old white people going into the primaries. It's as if they are taking a page from the GOP playbook and plan to throw the race entirely. The last time this happened, back in 2000 (when the Clintons backed away from Gore and let him founder on his own) we got GW and 9 months later we got jet liners posing as cruise missiles. I really hate to see this. It's like we're being set up again for some massive, horrible event. Something the republicans seem to LOVE to get into and the democrats seem to LOVE to profit from. All the while blaming republicans. This is all a game to them. BOTH parties are using our nation and people as cannon fodder for their wealthy corporate caulk suckers.
I don't get their fascination with him. They don't know that Republicans don't give black people the time of day? Yeah, we want an elderly President who can win fist fights and doesn't need security in a violent world. [roll eyes]
I've been trying to find uncensored full video coverage of the event, but it's been hard to find Here's a clip https://youtu.be/QkTitIAthjA It's hard to believe how spoiled, entitled, and obnoxious they are. It gets even worse when they actually get the microphone.
I don't think this destroyed Sanders. Dectractors will spin it as his spinelessness. Supporters will praise his poise and calm. The main effect is probably to undermine support for the "Black Lives Matter Movement"
Isn't this a generalisation? Are you sure you're not saying this just because you support their opponent?

My heart goes out to those touched by the tragedy in Ferguson. There are no words that can make it better. The question in my mind is "How does this keep happening?". Why is it that more and more we hear about someone getting shot by mistake, or possibly by mistake. It seems ridiculous to me. One time I was in my car driving rather erratically and wound up at gunpoint. A driver in a pickup truck shouted at me from his vehicle while at a stoplight to try and draw my attention to the fact that I had deliberately run a red light back there. I didn't like his tone and got out of my car. To my surprise he immediately pointed a gun at me. I called the police only to find out that A) he was an ex police officer and B) that he had called them too and he said that I had something in my hand that he thought was a gun. Luckily for me he didn't shoot me (probably because I ducked behind my car). Anyway that's my personal spin on what happens when the police think you have a gun but really you don't. I don't think I even had my keys in my hand as I probably left them in the ignition at the stoplight...
The best way to stay alive is to comply with the police. I had a cop point a gun at me after I had kicked in the front door of the unemployment office. I complied, and when he was stuffing me in the squad car, a reporter with a camera man asked me why I did it. I showed him the tracks on my arm from giving plasma so I could get something to eat. I told him the unemployment office wouldn't give me a job. I spent the night in jail, but the next morning all charges were dropped and the had a job for me in one hour, playing ping pong and basketball at a youth center.
Author and Nobel Prize winner Toni Morrison caused controversy when she said recently she wants to see a police officer shoot an unarmed white teenager in the back. Only then will she agree that the conversation about race is over. But Morrison’s wish is already a reality. Those comments reflect a common view that black Americans are systemically targeted by the police. However, analysis released over the weekend shows that more white people die at the hands of law enforcement officers than any other race. Peter Moskos, an assistant professor at New York City University’s John Jay College of Criminal Justice, has concluded that during the period ranging from May 2013 to April of 2015 roughly 49% of those killed by LEOs were white, while only 30% were black. As researchers point out, FBI data on police killings is infamously incomplete. Moskos turned to the website Killed By Police for more data. While 25% of the website’s data is incomplete, Moskos figures are in-line with two other previous studies that varied in research approaches. Investigators from ProPublica came about with similar findings using FBI data from 1980-2012. Even the fact-checking PolitiFact concluded that more whites than blacks had been killed by police from 1999-2011. PolitiFact points out, however, that blacks only make up 12% of the population. By breaking down racial populations it would appear black men are at a 3.5 times greater risk of being killed by police. But that doesn’t include a breakdown of violent crime stats. “Adjusted for the homicide rate, whites are 1.7 times more likely than blacks die at the hands of police,” Moskos said. “Adjusted for the racial disparity at which police are feloniously killed, whites are 1.3 times more likely than blacks to die at the hands of police.” The figures Moskos ran included both incidents of justified force and wrongful death. “The data doesn’t indicate which shootings are justified (the vast majority) and which are cold-blooded murder (not many, but some). And maybe that would vary by race. I don’t know, but I doubt it,” Mr. Moskos wrote on his blog. The data contradicts widely held opinions regarding law enforcement and race. This perception is fed by the media which reports on incidents which involve race and often ignore those that don’t. Public outcry is currently focused on the shooting death of Walter Scott at the hands of officer Michael Slager in South Carolina, as well as the suspicious death of Freddie Gray who died in custody of the Baltimore police. But there are many incidents where whites are killed by police which go unreported. Gilbert Collar, for example, a white 18-year-old University of South Alabama student, who was naked, unarmed, and high on drugs when he was shot and killed by a black officer. Why, if black Americans commit more violent crimes, are more whites killed by police? Moskos suggests two reasons. First, police assigned to largely black communities face “more political fallout when they shoot, and thus receive better training and are less inclined to shoot.” Secondly, officers assigned to black neighborhoods are more accustomed to dangerous situation and thus more likely to attempt to find a non-lethal solution. While statistics may help us to learn the truth about things we believe we perceive, the media is only interested in fanning flames. Stories that don’t play the race card just don’t get the same ratings. http://www.thefederalistpapers.org/us/study-more-whites-killed-by-police-than-blacks
turned himself in and will be charged as an adult. because his MOTHER didnt want to go to a funeral. our police are much more restrained than others. nothing is going to happen to him in jail unless its self inflicted.
