I think I made it above as I was adding

I guess the point I am making in common with others is that all lives matter no matter what colour of the skin . Now what you maybe saying may be true in America but I dont see that in the part of the UK I live in , As I said before we all dont live in America as is often presumed on here.

for most of the general population in the US no lives matter. us vs them, divide and conquer, "if you dont agree with me you are wrong" , right vs left,. unfortunately very little center remains.
Just for elucidation , I am not saying if you dont agree with this post you are wrong , I am saying the general population has this opinion

interesting point regarding false choice dilemma

Of course, all lives should matter, but the point of the "Black lives matter' slogan was to remind people that Black lives didn't seem to matter to some police and others who are gunning them down with alarming and disproportionate frequency. If all lives matter to you, you should be especially upset about the disproportionate loss of those black lives, and remind people that those in particular are the ones that seem to be in jeopardy. Saying "All lives matter" as a retort undermines the legitimate and important point the slogan Black Lives Matter is making.

    Yes I agree

However for the umpteenth time ,everyone assumes that we all live in America . Our police in the UK dont have guns for starters. We dont have this society problem as severe as you have in the USA.

Apart from the extreme right wing of which being a member of a said political party is outlawed here , I would say so .

At least 4 contributers of the thread are domiciled in the UK which backs my point up that not everyone lives in America and not experiencing what you guys are seeing .

Which is why Black Lives Matter makes sense as a slogan in the American context--where it originated.

Of course and agree , but the slogan I quoted was from South Africa but a poster tried to make out it meant something else. Maybe it does in America as it seems to be a bigger issue in American society than it is in the UK's .

I wouldn’t consider myself much of an “expert” on asking questions? So if my question seemed to be “One sided” to you? You can only agree with one? I wasn’t trying to make it like that? If you wanted; You could respond, “I have 2 minds on the subject. I could argue either one.”?

I was pointing out that either or questions neglect the alternative that there are more than two ways to look at something.

In addition I was pointing out that when something is presented as an either or choice the mere either or presentation can be used to promote a view or views that can then attempt to misconstrue the original idea to favor one side or the other or to completely change the original intention.

I didn't mean to imply that you yourself were attempting any of these things.

You have hit the nail on the head, in a non racist society, we would not even notice the difference.

    However.
I feel that a persons origins are an important part of that person, particularly if they were born in another country, so ignoring them can be ignorant and rude.
When I meet a person from another part of the world, it is never long before we end up chatting about their past and culture.
As a result, I have been given a map of the best way to see India via the railways, along with being invited to a barbecue in Barbados.
Many people who enjoy chatting about their culture have kept in touch for more than 40 years, not to mention the fact that I married one of them. Jane is from Ireland. LOL

Laws regarding discrimination are necessary, but the nanny state interpretation of them sometimes defies belief.
They totally ignore the fact that it is only discrimination when you imply that a persons shortcomings are BECAUSE of their race.

Gandhi, who lived in south Africa in his younger days put it the best way:-
"Their is no such thing as black or white people. We are either brown of a dirty shade of pink".

Still this Gandhi worship? He was a propaganda tool for the British at the time, they left for economic reasons not because of Gandhi and his passive resistance movement. He set Hindu against Muslim and told Hindus to be none violent and go to the knife bravely, they had other ideas.

It's like if one were to say-"save the whales", another would counter -"save all the animals." All the animals don't get harpooned like whales. Blacks don't get treated like others HERE.
