The first link you posted that I saw when I entered the discussion, which is apparently crying foul about the discovery of Lucy, had banners for Anti-Abortion DVD's and Christian Manifestos, on the same page. The article itself says authored by the editorial staff and it didn't provide any references to the claims it makes in the article. The article and website for that matter exhibit a bias, a strong and unabashed bias at that...

It is an attractive crisis when only your opponents are called upon to make sacrifices.

Maybe some of us do have more in common with dolphins. Dolphins want to help people and not hurt them.

Other people remind me of hungry wolves or warring ape tribes.....ect.

and dolphins certainly are not polluting our air or water,.

You keep referring to this drawing as if the theory of evolution is based on a drawing with no research whatsoever to back it up. I'm honestly flabbergasted.

seriously, Google "evolution scholarly articles. " then click the first link, it will say "scholarly articles for evolution"

    We're getting off topic.

The topic is Bill Nye and his relevance to science.

If we want to discuss whether the theory of evolution is valid we should start another thread unless it can be related to Bill Nye.

Of course Bill Nye's new show is geared toward minors. What makes you think anyone over the age of 18 needs an ice cream cartoon to teach them about sexual orientation?

Parents who grew up watching Bill Nye in the 90s are going to be enticed to let their kids watch a new show made by him, even if it's loaded with propaganda and prioritizes gender studies over the same biology he taught in his old show.

    We didn't evolve from chimps.

You really need to start a thread on evolution as you seem to unclear on a number of points.

I'll say this. If Nye can devote a whole episode explaining the science behind flirty pansexual wood sprites (mentioned in the Sex Junk song), then he may be able to redeem himself for me. :D

Both articles you linked state she was an Australopithecus afarensis, but sure, random person on the internet, we'll go with what you say, shes a chimp. Scientists and their silly, silly systems of classifications be damned!

Okay you want to talk about the evolution of homo sapiens?

Lets' start with a simple chart.
Now before we get into the chart, looking at your posting of the song lyrics, I see no reference to chimpanzees. It does mention bipeds. Now bipeds (moving by using two legs) includes a very large group including all birds, many mammals, some reptiles at times, and some archosaurs.
In the context of the song, the author is referring to homo sapien females.

If we look at the chart can we can see that chimpanzees are a completely different group from the family of Hominini, to which homo sapiens belong.

I see no reference to Lucy (AL 288-1) in the song but it doesn't matter as Lucy is of the species Australopithecus afarensis, not the genus Pan, (chimpanzees), or the genus Homo, (modern humans).
So I don't understand why you are linking the song to evolution in this manner, by referring to chimpanzees and Lucy.

The song does mention the word evolution, but in the context of the differing human sexes, not the evolution of humans in regards to their ancestors. In other words, we have evolved to procreate by the use of sex, that is we have two basic sexes as opposed to asexual reproduction in which an organism does not need genetic input from another organism.

So what the song says is true, "It's evolution, ain't nothing new, There's nothing taboo about a sex stew".
Sexual reproduction started about 1.2 billion tears ago.

So your beef about bipeds, chimpanzees, Lucy, and sexual reproduction are not valid.
Sexual genders are about evolution so the song lyrics are scientifically correct.

Now if you choose to not believe in evolution, that's another matter and that's why I suggested a thread about evolution.
But as far as the song lyrics, they correspond to the latest scientific data and theories as to human origins.

This is from the abstract that was referenced in the article regarding the discovery of a Fourth Metatarsal of an Australopithecus afarensis...

The article is fairly clear and supports, what Meliai among others have suggested. I can understand where you're not checking the abstract but I don't follow how you have the inability to analyze the rest of the article.

Bill Nye debated a creationist a few years ago, so that may be why some of this evolution discussion has encompassed more than the song.

I don't know what "it" you are referring to.
If you are referring to Lucy, Lucy belongs to a hominin line of apes called Australopithecus afarensis.

There are two families of apes, Hylobatidae, which are the lesser apes such as gibbons; and the hominids such as gorillas, chimps, Lucy, and today's humans.

and to debunk the dolphin theory....they have more fissurization in their neo cortexes than we do.....so they seem to operate on a less primitive level than some humans. i was always of the belief that the kinder you are, the more intelligent, anyway....but saying we evolved from dolphins gives humans more credit than they deserve.

As far as evolviing into two sexes for reproduction goes, many species have.Nothing special to humans there, either.

i think evolution happens for many reasons...Adjust to new things or die out.

In a brain...first we have the paleo cortex.....which is the primitive brain ...and we share this wlth all amimals....and many people operate from this only , it seems.....then there is the cortex....and then the paleo cortex....the evolved part of the brain we share with dolphins...but theirs is more fissurized, which means it is more evolved than ours.

Me, too....:)...think dolphins are better and all animals are better than us.....:D

Maybe we should make a new thread to discuss all of this and get out of this thread.....?

I love to discuss this kind of topic. I have nothing more to say about Bill Nye, though.

No the chart shows both extinct and living species of apes.
Humans are members of the sub family, Homininae, within the super family of Hominoidea, and belong to the Subtribe Hominina.
    Hominoidea are apes.

Apes (and humans by extension) have fully developed prehensile fingers and toes (with prints), a ceacum or appendix, reduced fangs and dentition, fur (thin on humans), and claws or chitinous fingernails. Humans and other apes are susceptible to AIDS and can be poisoned by the male funnel web spider of Australia (which is deadly only to primates) and like all primates humans cannot produce vitamin-C naturally. Females have two opposed lactal nipples located on the chest, males have a pendulous penis. Apes have tails, humans have vestigial tails that do not protrude through the skin. No other animals other than lemurs, tarsiers, monkeys, gorillas, etc...and humans.... have all of theses traits.
They did both, evolve and survive.

Lucy's bones were found in situ in a small valley. Several hundred bones were found with no duplication, indicating they came from one individual. 40% of Lucy's entire skeleton was collected. One complete pelvic bone and sacrum were found allowing the opening of the pelvis to be determined to correspond to a female.

Reread the similarities between all primates and humans above, and then reconsult the chart.

Because humans didn't evolve from rocks or mountains.
