Take everything you ever knew about the science guy and throw it in the trash. This is such a cringe fest and quite possibly the worst music propaganda video I have ever seen.

But I did get a chuckle the other day while watching his Netflix show, thinking about how all his old fans who grew up to be republicans and right wingers and have bought the propaganda that humans can do whatever they want to the planet in the name of profit have probably all lost their fucking minds watching his show. Lol.

 

Bill Nye is just another mouthpiece. It's obvious to me when he spouts the usual climate change dogma.

 

It would be one thing if the music performance was actually good. Just watch the video, maybe you might like it enough to defend it from scrutiny. I've seen performers put out a political narrative into a performance and actually do a good job even though I disagreed with it.

But unlike Nye, no real scientist would say gender is on a spectrum.

I should also say that when you're a scientist, the general public automatically believes whatever you say because, well... you're a scientist. As if you cannot be paid off to promote an agenda which is actually contrary to science. This is why people like Nye are such useful tools.

 

Oh is that what its about? I assumed it was about climate change. I'm at work but ill watch it later.

I liked the nirvana spoof on the old Bill Nye show, that was pretty good

I don't really feel one way or another about the subject, I just don't care, but I know people who do like to debate on the topic draw a distinction between biological sex and gender

After watching the video what an overreaction. Right wing people being uncomfortable over silliness. Not saying that was a quality song but it's clear why you are upset and it's not the lack of musical ability it is the content. Bill Nye is a celebrity and I am sure sometimes things like this get pitched that he does because in the bigger picture people are being exposed to science and that is his goal.

Sounded like it to me. What disinformation is he spreading? The only thing I can think of is that he is upsetting certain people because he is a prominent global warming figure and some people refuse to accept that as face. I don't think you understand how the scientific community works. Your facts will be checked and verified. You can't lie unless there is a MASSIVE conspiracy to do so requiring many branches of science.

Not so much a massive conspiracy, just a lot of money and corruption. Also, scientists know that they will be ostracized and their careers might be ruined if they go against prevailing climate change dogma. Keep in mind that over 650 scientists were redacted from the IPCC report because they did not go along with that prevailing dogma. Conspiracy? Sounds kind of like one to me.

 

You are an idiot if you don't see climate change is real. A good portion of those 650 are paid to say that by oil companies or their own religious ignorance prevents them from seeing the truth.

If those people could prove it does not occur they would be heard by their peers but they can not.

 

The climate is changing and has been changing since the beginning of time.

I have not seen a drop of evidence showing that climate change is the result of human activity. Correlation does not equal causation, especially when the ice core samples from Antarctica show that that there were times when the temperatures were lower while CO2 levels were much higher than they are today. Yet somehow climate change proponents like to ignore this.

I do believe there are environmental problems that can be blamed on human activity, like pollution and deforestation, but not so-called climate change.

 

You just like the people you cite are practicing poor science. Ignorance is not just as good as fact despite what you may feel. This all sounds like the "alternative fact" nonsense going around. In your lifetime you will see you were wrong but clearly I will not convince you.

I bet you could not get an engineering degree. Dismiss if you want but it's a branch of science in a way and he would not be where he if he did not have the support and respect of the more traditional scientific community.

 

When was this? The decrease in temperature and increase in carbon, I mean. Do you have a source? I'm curious to look into it.

Personally I think the climate change debate is besides the point anyways, humans are stupid if they dont understand the delicate balance of the earth's ecosystems and atmosphere and how human activity can affect that. We shouldnt need a scientific consensus to tell us we need to take care of the planet and stop burning fossil fuels, among other things we should be and not be doing.

But I do think climate is an interesting topic and am interested in your source !

 

Oh and just as an aside, I went to wiki's page of scientists who disagree with anthropogenic climate change earlier to check out their reasoning and credentials, and I wished I remembered her name but I stopped reading in disgust ..but the very first one I clicked on reportedly ignored her own data that showed a warming trend and also worked with another climate change denier who reportedly has taken a cool million to do research for the coal industry

Eventually I'll get back into checking the credentials of various scientists who dispute the general consensus, but that was enough for today.

It didn't take more than 10 posts to turn this thread into a global warming debate thread. I bet not ONE of you saw the Sex Junk video with Bill Nye that was in the OP. If y'all did, you'd all be talking about the cringy discomfort they felt from that song. Gawd I love it when threads go awry!


The truth is, I don't give a crap what Nye thinks about global warming. I've known he held the mainstream opinion (politically correct opinion) on climate change for at least 5 years. Even though he's wrong, I've come to terms with it; because it'll destroy your career as an entertainer if you don't.


Even when Nye said he believes climate change skeptics should be "thrown in prison as war criminals," he did come out as a fascist with the world views in line with genocidal dictator though. But he wasn't dead to me just yet, but close.



Now that he's gotten on board with the social justice warrior and trend-gender bandwagon. He's pretty much dead to me. He is a human embodiment of an appeal to authority. He's a product of the same people who think the EPA is going to fix man made climate change.

20 years ago in the 90s, I still remember Bill Nye teaching me about X & Y chromosomes and how they determine gender. Here, he's done a full 180. Gender is not on a spectrum. He is basically telling confused teenagers and children a lot of misinformation about gender and sexuality.


Also, if gender is a social construct, then how the hell do you justify the existence of transgender people? Basically these gender activists like Nye are pushing the narrative that we are all blank slates at birth, who's interests and basic instincts are all shaped by societal pressures. They don't believe that men and women are different in any way, in that we are all shaped by societal constructs and pressures. But then when someone says they were born the wrong gender, they believe that human with the brain of the wrong gender was born in the wrong body. Therefore making gender a biological construct, not a social construct.
