I agree. The only way to have everything change is another civil war. A new president or a few new senators isnt gonna change shit. The whole system is fucked. Until the people take control back it will always be the same.
Gates was on 60 minutes last night and they made him out to be the second coming and his wife mary magdalene Hotwater
I'm not entirely convinced that another civil war is necessary but apart from that this post is spot on. Unfortunately most of us are conditioned to think it's "someone else's" job. Campaign pledges for change and to clean up government are nothing new- it's generally understood that people are aware that they are getting screwed by the government and ruling elite- and this is used by candidates to get votes. Not major party endorsed candidate is going to advocate any meaningful change that doesn't benefit them or the money interests endorsing them. Using our spending power in unison would be a more palatable type of revolution as opposed to a violent civil war- which would dignify a decision to impose martial law and remove all pretense of freedom.
Sorry but what's the issue? Over population should be a genuine concern, we need to focus on sustainability, sustainable growth, not have idiots fucking all over the place, introducing more retarded of-spring to take up car packs, add to pollution, consuming what's left of our natural resources. The bigger the human population gets, the worse it is for everyone, animals, the planet, other humans.
the restless consumer awaits bill gates new gadgets.. xmas is right around the corner.. Video of Bill Gates Showing off his Expensive Table
i suppose he's gotta come up with some reason to be the richest man on earth while so many starve to death every day.... or he'd never sleep at night wanker
I really don't see how the country can reset and over throw the corrupt leaders without blood shed, civil war. Many will be lost in saving the country, but its a sacrifice that will necessary, whether you like it or not. It must happen in order to over through a police state. Europe and other parts will have to do the same. Look at the protest in London not long ago that proved nothing because someone would not stand and fight.
What if instead people stopped spending money on useless garbage. No i-phones, no snuggies, no big screen televisions? What if people only bought the bare essentials to live? What kind of message would that send big industries who make billions off of people's attractions to bright shiney things? What if people, instead of spending weekends in a Walmart or bowling alley, instead spent their weekends outside prisons, demanding users of an innocent plant be released. Or if they spent their spare time in front of government buildings demanding better, no longer willing to accept the bullshit and the lies. No longer willing to accept, "this is the best we can do," for an answer. Small steps count, monday-friday money needs to be earned, but change can happen over the weekend. The best way to promote change is to take away the income of someone. Tired of additives in food? Don't by those foods; if enough people did that those companies would be forced to change their ways, or else risk bancruptcy. Something to think about: Here where I live, cannabis users gather on one single day of the year to go use cannabis in front of our Parliament Buildings. On this one day (April 20th) the police turn the other way and let these people do this. It's their own little rebellion that accomplishes nothing more than a fun day on a spring afternoon. What if those same people, instead of doing it only that one day, gathered in large enough groups (we have the right to peaceful protest), and instead went down there every single weekend? If enough people did this in large enough groups, for how much longer do you think cannabis would be illegal? I'm willing to bet not very long. Blood shed isn't necessary. Enough people just have to care and be willing to donate their spare time to the cause. Or, not spend money on things that hurt the cause.
Agree with you. Those would have to be changes that each person is willing to make on a long term basis. That is not going to happen as we already know. Instead people will continue to complain. Or suggest that we wage war on each other. Great solution. It is a whole new concept, wars solve something.
What, because he has money he's responsible for people starving? I'm no fan of Bill Gates, mainly because of his ruthless and barely legal business practices, but at least he is now attempting to do something. What are all those throwing rocks at him in this thread doing? Calling for civil war and revolution? Please, fucking grow up! I may not 100% completely agree with Gates' philosophies concerning the problems of energy and related overpopulation, but I understand them. Do you or did you just watch the few minutes singled out of the entire segment and cry "EVIL MAN!!!" It does sound counter intuitive and nefarious, but as I pointed out in my previous post, it is rooted in sound logic. It's just that a lot of deeply ingrained cultural traditions also need to be overcome. To all of you calling for revolution, do I have the right to personally own firearms, or should gun ownership be controlled and regulated?
no because he has enough money to buy them lunch, and he doesn't if you had bill gates financial power.. would you not try to change the world?
Uhhmm, isn't that what he IS doing with all his money and his foundation? He is trying to fund things that are going to go to help keep peoples stomachs filled and their brains educated so that they can become self sufficient. Let me ask you, how do you know he doesn't buy them lunch? A lot of people do philanthropic work behind the scenes and don't announce every little effort they make. You know the old saying, teach a man to fish......... Like I said, I'm no big fan of Bill Gates, but at least the programs he funds help these people to achieve a status and education so they will get to a point of not needing to accept charity aid. I guess he is just a little more far reaching and visionary in his endeavors than you appear to be. bill-and-melinda-gates-foundation-2009-annual-report 2009 Grants Paid Summary by Strategy For the year ended December 31, 2009 Amounts in thousands GLOBAL DEVELOPMENT 677,170 Agricultural Development 316,498 Financial Services for the Poor 132,930 Global Libraries 34,865 Policy & Advocacy 41,095 Special Initiatives 97,648 Water, Sanitation, & Hygiene 54,134 GLOBAL HEALTH 1,826,446 Discovery (Health, Science, & Technology) 59,120 Enteric and Diarrheal Diseases 61,160 Family Planning 39,646 HIV/AIDS 221,648 Malaria 243,416 Maternal, Newborn, & Child Health 122,819 Neglected and Other Infectious Diseases 120,970 Nutrition 53,214 Pneumonia 51,144 Policy & Advocacy 307,541 Polio 253,139 Special Initiatives 19,280 Tobacco 34,683 Tuberculosis 121,587 Vaccine Delivery 117,079 UNITED STATES PROGRAM 488,827 Advocacy: Policy & Communications 16,399 Homelessness 7,262 Libraries 18,857 Pacific Northwest Community 30,323 Scholarships 42,755 U.S. Education 373,231 NON-PROGRAM GRANTS 52,751 Charitable Sector Support 7,134 Employee Matching Gifts & Sponsorships 3,238 Family Interest Grants 42,379 Total 3,045,194
are you saying that you could have a bank account of BILLIONS and the best you could come up with to help people is to use the fact that you have billions to try and raise more money to fund foundations you have put your name to? cos they die i like to donate to several charities... i'm not hugely generous but i'd guess it's about 5-7% of my income.. not sure how much gates donates from his personal income
First of all just because his net worth may be in the billions does not mean that HE has access to it. Most of it is tied up in stocks and Microsoft. The annual report is money THEY PAID OUT, not money they collected. I doubt anyone but he and his wife know how much they donate out of pocket. The thing you fail too see is that there are lots of charitable organizations that FEED people. His group is also trying to EDUCATE people so they can become self-sufficient. I guess you failed to see that the second highest amount paid out was for agricultural development, even though I highlighted it. He is investing most of it to PREVENT people from dying, do you not see that based on the reports and projects his foundation funds or do you prefer to just go with the crowd crying "EVIL MAN" instead of checking out the facts for yourself? I personally think the amounts are small compared to the amount of resources he could have available, but I don't fault him one bit for the WAYS he chooses to spend those resources. They make a lot more long term sense then many others I have seen. Let me ask you this, what does Richard Branson do considering he is another high profile rich s-o-b. He does philanthropic work as well, but approaches it like a game show and has contest's, has his companies set up so he can avoid paying taxes to YOUR government, etc. etc.
despite the rises and falls of many previous civilizations, humans are still here.... the planet is still here... i'm sure she (nature) will make sure that the balance is met eventually, by whatever means necessary... i feel like such a wanker when i cave in and buy into any part of it, an iPod or a trip to the supermarket or something similar... but maybe i am being too harsh on myself... everything is exactly as it should be afterall...
branson doesn't talk about population control, as far as i'm aware so you basically think that an individual who has the personal wealth to literally buy every hungry person lunch tomorrow, or vaccinate an entire continent against disease, or pay off the debt of several countries taht have been hit by natural disaster but doesn't, has the moral right to lecture us on population control? there is no point in teaching a man to fish if he's already fookin' starved to death for lack of a net
Buying everyone lunch is one thing, getting it to them is another. Man just when I was beginning to think there was some intellect behind your keyboard, and just I suspected, you didn't bother to investigate it any further than the 3 minute clip. 'nuff said.
