what are they gonna do hold you down and shave your head, or hold you down and smear it with peanut butter. seriously, i don't think their "friend" could live with peanut buttera and honey on their head.
Am I the only one here who respected their parents? As long as I lived under their roof with free rent, utilities, and food I did follow their rules, to an extent. My parents were fair with me too. I hate people saying oh you're 18 do what you want, well not really you still live off your parents then you should still show some respect. Maybe just crochet your dreads as best you can, usually helps them look more presentable.
just get a tattoo that took my mom's mind off my dreads (dont do it)(but this situation really happened) I really think you should just take the dreads out (your only a month along) and then just wait til you are older or until your parents understand because believe me they prolly won't change their minds just grow your hair out and wait. (3 years from being 18) believe me its not that bad, I was 18 before I knew it I'm still trying to figure out how time went by so quickly. good luck either way
If they do'nt care that you have dreads, but they insist that they stay tidy, why not use aloe vera to gel the lose hair into place? Do it in the morning to please your parents and maybe after school if it makes them happy and let the strays go wild during the in between time. That seems like a very easy solution and you both win.
i know a lot of people here hates DHHQ but the information in these videos are helpful, my mother and mother in law was against me getting dreads, tried the back combing then decided to go the neglect route, but when i decided that i was going to get dreads i had them watch these videos that explain about dreads and the stereotype crap that happens when you get dreads, they are not excited about me letting my hair dread but they changed their thoughts about people who have dread.. maybe it will help you and maybe not, hope it works out for you the videos are here http://www.dreadheadhq.com/make_dreadlocks_dread_it_up_media.php
I didn't dread till long after I moved out. I tried to disobey my mother as surreptitiously as possible, I think it's more worthwhile. Anyway, she likes em now
" i just gon make funz of the personal info you put out there b/c i'z got no other backing to my arguments. cuz you just fuckin stupid. and i haz a degree in engineering. music engineering that is. so i iz smart"
I think my life is superior to yours. I work a job which I absolutely love and I have pretty much everything I want. Whats your life consist of? running around the forest in tights trying to be a pixie, not being be able to tie your own shoes and going a few days without eating? sounds fantastic
Just explain to them that it looks like crap for the first month or two, like other people said. And yeah, don't flip out at them....They control your food intake. D:
i waited until i had moved out. yeah have some respect for your parents, but i would exhaust all other options first, sit down with them on the internet and show them everything, get them interested in it, let them realize that every month is another stage, every time they look messy something is going on.
