It's awful.. been watching updates. Our emergency services are amazing! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/uk-england-london-40239008
Yes absolutely horrendous, shocking. There is hardly and English tv station you can go to which isnt on about over and over again the same footage. I take it that you responders are English as am I, but I dont live there any more.
it is speculated that a combination of poor workmanship, and inadequate materials were used in reconstruction work a few years previously the news reported a memo leak where someone as quoted as saying something like "it would take a fire to get the council to actually take the matter seriously" so somebody is in a lot of trouble. the fact that some pencil pusher has gambled with other peoples safety such a fact is simply indigestible and questions must be answered i feel heartbroken for london once more
I read that people were told to stay in their flats but some ignored that and managed to escape. It must have been an absolutely horrendous scene. If it does turn out that the refurbishment cut corners on safety, heads should roll - not that it will be any consolation to those who have lost family members, lost their homes or been injured. I hate those tower blocks. I can't imagine how people can stand to live in them , other than that they have no choice.
Shoot the people that told them to stay in their flats Tower 2 on 9/11 people were told to go back upstairs, they died Manchester Arena, on one of the videos you can here staff telling people to remain were they are- as if they had any idea there want going to be more bombs And now this If any hip forumers find themselves in a similar situation and some official tells you to stay put or go back up stairs, stick it to the man, and get the fuck outta there
Guy on the 4th floor, his fridge exploded, it's thought that, plus fire doors open, and the new lagging on the out side.. Seems there could be hundreds dead, entire families, old people.. fire offices haven't been able to get in properly yet. Never a good idea to put those things up..
Update http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/06/14/london-fire-latest-grenfell-tower-fatalities-confirmed-residents/
From the Guardian “A disaster waiting to happen,” is how the architect and fire expert Sam Webb describes hundreds of tower blocks across the UK, after the fire at Grenfell Tower in Kensington that has left at least six people dead. “We are still wrapping postwar high-rise buildings in highly flammable materials and leaving them without sprinkler systems installed, then being surprised when they burn down.” https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/jun/14/disaster-waiting-to-happen-fire-expert-slams-uk-tower-blocks
Sprinkler systems wouldn't work on the out side anyway. But fire doors closed do. In high rise blocks, they create a pocket on the stairs that stops smoke and people are able to get out. Lots of survivors are saying the doors are wedged open, because there are a large amount of old people and children in the block, and they find the doors heavy. I guess you never think it's going to happen.
Our thoughtful prime minster couldn't take time out of her busy day to pass on her condolences, but she had long enough to tell someone what to say for her.. What's up, you had enough disasters Mrs May? Wonder how the people of London feel! Sooner she is gone, the better!
