Sense more than a few plants on this Earth are quite poisonous it would seem as though gods instructions should come with a disclaimer, why is this statement made in the bible as it is clearly incorrect?

    Genesis

1:29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

In Luke 1:28, the angel Gabriel greets Mary as "full of grace". Protestant translations often render this as "highly favored", but this is a weak, inaccurate translation. The Greek term here is kecharitomene, a perfect present participle of the verb charitoo, which denotes "grace". A perfect participle indicates an action completed in the past with existing results, and a present participle denotes continuous or repeated action.

So kecharitomene means "you who were and continue to be full of and completed in grace". Now grace is not mere unmerited favor, but God's gift of spiritual life and communion with Himself. Sin and grace are opposed (Romans 5:20-21), and grace saves us from sin (Eph 2:5, 8). So Mary's fullness of grace indicates a complete absence of sin.

    What does Genesis 3:15 mean?

the answers by people who insist on a scientific reading of Genesis 1-11 say that it was because sin entered the world that these things became poisonous...

Both literal AND scientific? Neither term is likely to apply to Genesis (nor most other old testament scriptures)

Seems a bit of a stretch to get all of that from one Scripture. Any thing else?

The one addressed at Genesis 3:15 is the Serpent—not the lowly snake but the one who used it. (Revelation 12:9) “The woman” is not Eve but Jehovah’s heavenly organization, the mother of his spirit-anointed servants on earth. (Galatians 4:26) The Serpent’s “seed,” is Satan’s seed, his offspring—demons and humans as well as human organizations that manifest the traits of Satan and that show enmity toward the “seed” of the woman. (John 15:19; 17:15) The woman’s “seed” is primarily Jesus Christ, who was anointed with holy spirit in 29 C.E.

Why do you all look to the past for answers? The past has no answers - up till 1300 ad they believed the world was flat , the sun and moon circled the earth ( incredible arrogance I might add). Look around you now. Accept that you are all part of what you see.

I will tell you this about reading the bible . Once you let God start waving his magic wand and altering the laws of physics. Your not gonna be able to make since out of the rest of the story.

Yes the Earth was covered in water, we have proven that. The Earth will again be covered in water. Its surface is almost 80% water if anything disrupts the balance water will wash over the planet again. No there was not one inbred family floating around with all the animals.

There is a 2 fold problem when looking to history , the bible or the past for answers. It is the point of view of the story teller and the point of view of the person hearing the story. Example, they told me in high school that Columbus discovered America. Yes, in his eyes he found America. But in the eyes of the people that lived here he did not discover shit. Now that history looks back we realize that he did not discover shit.

The only way that the bible can help you with history or understanding the past is if you believe that God pulled out his magic wand and altered the laws of physics time and time again.

Can you imagine what it would have been like if the bible really showed us the way. Back when we thought the earth was flat - we read the bible and learn that the earth revolves around the sun and learn about all the wonders of science . Then we would believe and look to the bible for answers . But what has really happened is the bible and the church have stopped the growth of knowledge time and time again and kept us persecuted in the dark ages for far too long until we are forced to say enough.

Yes but only one talks about Mary and it doesn't say she was sinless.

The Bible was never meant to subvert human scientific understandings or of growth and progress. The Bible was meant to be used as a guide for the spirit of a man's soul and I believe that the Bible is great in that it sets things straights in our hearts and helps to make our hearts lighter.

The Dark Ages weren't really dark - The Bible doesn't ask us to hate knowledge of our world but asks us to use our reason carefully (Acts 17:11 - Proverbs 14:15). It was actually the scientists of the day that said the earth was flat, and the holy spirit that gave Columbus the impression that the world was round.

The perspective of man is faulty, but the perspective of God would not be. The Bible is historically accurate and become more so as time goes on as new discoveries are made.

Why do we look to science for all the answers? Does knowing that the world is round help us to become better people towards one another? The great thing about 'looking to the past' is that the spiritual knowledge contained in the Bible is a human universal and has no expiration date.

Well that is a very childish reading. Can you not use reason and logic to see the implications of the three together?

Getting a bit touchy are we?

There's three Scriptures, none of which say anything about sinlessness and only one even mentions Mary. One would think such an important teaching would be better supported by the Bible. At least supported enough that you wouldn't have to resort to calling people childish and lacking reason and logic for not agreeing with you.

No, I do not think you lack logic, just that you are not using it. I do not think you are childish, just that your reading is very word for word, and anything beyond those words taken apart from each other is somehow "not in the Bible".

Things can have more than one meaning.

Is God only our Father? Or is he also a mother in birth pangs? Is he not also a spirit (How can our Father be a spirit?) Is he not also a husband to his children?

God can "be" more than one thing, so too can Scripture reveal more than one thing. Did Jesus simply heal, or do his deeds of power signify something more as well? The resurrection perhaps...

    Kings

8:63 And Solomon offered a sacrifice of peace offerings, which he offered unto the LORD, two and twenty thousand oxen, and an hundred and twenty thousand sheep. So the king and all the children of Israel dedicated the house of the LORD.

Is this not a bit excessive?
