    rofl, JMT is on fire.

    ---

Are some not made for marriage?

    Matthew 19:11-12 - (NWT)

11 He said to them: “Not all men make room for the saying, but only those who have the gift. 12 For there are eunuchs that were born such from their mother’s womb, and there are eunuchs that were made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs that have made themselves eunuchs on account of the kingdom of the heavens. Let him that can make room for it make room for it.”

Is it either, "Have no sex or only have sex with your spouse who you love?" or are all form of promiscuous sex a sin? If you sin in this way, we can't be true Christians? I know that sins are basically missing out on what God wants for us and so we are experiencing a lesser form of goodness so that we aren't necessarily 'bad' people, for a lack of a better way of saying it.

Does God expect us all to be virgins unless we are married?

All statutes of mitigation exist to accommodate "hardness of heart". There are no marriages in heaven.

I don't necessarily think God expects it but that is what he says is good for us. :D

I would say yes, but if we are not then it isn't a hell-sentence.

Someone who becomes a priest could be a widower. Someone who had premarital sex, repented, and then ordained would not be a virgin.

So like OWB said, "Yes, but it is not necessary."

I always like to quote St Paul though. He does say that some are to be married and some are to remain single. It is better to remain single, but not bad if we want to be married. I also like that in the Catechism, both Holy Orders and Marriage are called sacraments of service. both are equally as important and valid vocations.

There is a joke that Catholics do not date, they discern the vocation of marriage. It isn't really funny.

    1 Corinthians 7:6-7
I say this [that it is okay to marry and have sex] as a concession, not as a command. I wish that all men were as I am. But each man has his own gift from God; one has this gift, another has that.

Here is an example of Paul's opinion being used as a justification of one thing or another. The real concession is by Paul that it is simply Paul's opinion. The reason Paul is of this opinion is that being married may create a competition for the attention of oneself, which would represent a personal struggle. It is easier in his opinion to be without this, "burden".
However, in the end it may be discovered that our own, "sorting out", does not matter.

    Whatever happended to the cockatrice?

    Isaiah

14:29 Rejoice not thou, whole Palestina, because the rod of him that smote thee is broken: for out of the serpent's root shall come forth a cockatrice, and his fruit shall be a fiery flying serpent.

(Isaiah 14:29) “Do not rejoice, O Phi·lis′ti·a, any one of you, just because the staff of the one striking you has been broken. For out of the root of the serpent there will come forth a poisonous snake, and its fruit will be a flying fiery snake.

The Biblical references (the King James Version Isa 11:8; 59:5; Jer 8:17) are doubtless to a serpent, the word "cockatrice," with its medieval implications, having been introduced by the translators of the King James Version.

Does the Bible go into how we can recognize our gifts?

Why does the bible care about the length of a mans hair?

    Corinthians

11:14 Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?

Also it would appear as though that the bible is in contradiction with itself when it comes to how a man styles his hair, again I ask, why an d why would the hair length matter for men and not for women if the warning is intended to thwart the spread of vermin?

    Numbers

6:5 No razor shall come upon his head. He shall be holy, and shall let the locks of the hair on his head grow.

The bible is not a sentient being, it has no care one way or another. The bible cannot contradict itself, but the writers of the bible can certainly appear to contradict one another.

    Fair enough...

This statement is as counterproductive and credulous as any I've read in this thread.

What do you mean the bible can't contradict itself because it's not a sentient being, and then go on to state that it is the writers who are in contradiction and not the book that they had penned?

If the men who wrote the bible are in contradiction in respect to the things they chose to include in their book would that not mean the the book is also in contradiction?

All Corinthians is saying is that a man's hair has a natural tendency to be shorter than a woman's hair and thus if a man has hair that is longer than men in general can grow their hair, to the length that women could grow their hair, at the time that would have been shameful to him. So, Corinthians is not talking about hair styles.

As for Numbers, it's talking less about hair styles and more about giving up something in dedication to God's service and so part of that is giving up grooming your hair by cutting it.

But the question is why is hair style important enough to include in the bible, it would be like some cryptic passage siting that all hammers needed to be painted pink, and then not giving a reason as to why.

Does god show favor to those who style there hair a cetain way?

What is included at this point is determined by the editor, not the writer.
I said appear to be in contradiction. They are different sources saying different things from different perspectives, self sufficiencies not contradictions.

The statement is not without context. The context is head covering, not hair style and the statement is merely saying that even nature shows that the long hair of a woman, shows the need for a head covering for women. Not cryptic at all.

No, God does not favor one hair style over another.

I think God instructed that to Samson as to 'set him apart'. Probably because he wanted Samson to be noticeable so as to work in favor of God's intentions to create a dialogue between the Jews and the Philistines.
