Hey, I almost got scammed by this paypal thing. I was checking one of my emails and since I was just dealing with my paypal and trying to pay a bill this is what came up, I almost clicked on it, then I looked closer and also realized this isn't the account that should've been used to send an email from paypal, and also I'd just been in my paypal account and it didn't make sense: Was going to post the screen capture but I can't get rid of my name on my account and stuff. Anyway it was spelled Paypal Secuirty and the email address came from <service.security-bank.paypall.com@perana.websitewelcome.com> If you're alert you should be able to catch this but I'm barely alert right now and it all looks like paypal logos and all that.
These types of scams have been going on for years. It's a phishing scam. They try to get your account information so they can use your PayPal account. So the thing to know is that PayPal never asks for your account information, and if it's a legitimate e-mail from PayPal, it should also include your name. Once you know this, these fake e-mails are pretty easy to spot. This applies to pretty much any e-mail that asks for personal information. I think most people have been targeted by these scam e-mails at least once or twice. I know I have a few times.
It might be worth reporting the scam to paypal or to whoever your email provider is. Too bad you got watch your back so much these days.
I am not sure what good that will do as these scams have been going on seemingly forever (or at least since PayPal has been around). I doubt there is much that can be done, so it's up to each person to be able to spot these scams and not get fooled.
^ lots of crimes have been going on for a long time. That doesn't mean that you shouldn't report them. Might not help, but probably wouldn't hurt.
My Firefox browser warns me about scams. Occasionally when I have had nothing better to do I fill in their forms with names like first name Dick, surname Head or initial R surname Sole. They were probably so focussed on making money they would have failed to see the funny side of it.
