I have bartered for medical care from natural practicioners. I've barterred with the vet for my dogs...and antibiotics for myself. Most any sickness, I've gained the knowledge to handle, even setting broken bones and giving myself stitches (which is stupid because there's super glue!). Last time I went to a hospital, I was in the middle of a stroke. I couldn't see out of one eye, was dry heaving, and could barely control my left arm. I got in there, got hassled about insurance for half an hour, got handed a $100 disposable piece of tupperware to dry heave at, then got to wait for two hours to see anyone...and it was the middle of the night and no one was there. Once the doctor finally came to see me, he checked my BP, which was 280/160. My pulse was 17bpm. He shined a light in my eyes, pinched my hands and said, "Yeah, you probably had a little stroke there." Then the nurse came in, and put me on a saline drip with a mild blood pressure medication in it. When the drip was done, they told me to go to the low cost county clinic the next day and released me. The clinic wouldn't listen to a word I said about my neck, C1 injuries, and how swelling at the base of the brain can cause blood pressure spikes. They tried to put me on huge doses of BP meds, that made my kidneys hurt and my urine dark, but didn't phase the BP. They also thought it would be a good idea to put me on tramadol every two hours for the headaches instead of sending me in for some x-rays. This is a county clinic but they charge, and I was paying so that wasn't the issue. They just didn't give a shit. The ER bill for that visit was over $5k, for 4 hours there, a quick checkup, and a saline drip. After that experience, I decided that I'd rather die than be treated by deal with that system again. I've been dealing with this issue on my own ever since and might be making progress. I made it through the worst of the headaches, relearned how to play guitar, and made it through the months of pain and suicidal thoughts on my own, broke and alone. It has made me stronger. I've dealt with so much pain that now, I could pull my fingernail off without flinching. The little things like blown rotator cuffs, torn meniscuses, and bulging discs in my lower back feel like a feather tickling me compared to my neck/head. Through that experience, I learned more about myself, brains, spines, discs, and alternative treatments than I ever wanted to know. Basically, if I get so sick or injured that I can't fix it or deal with it, I'm fine with going out honorably.
There's no arrogance here. I can firmly state that what I'm saying is logical. If people supposedly don't want to participate in the envlavement of their species and the destruction of their environment, they are being giant hypocrites by participating in civilization as we know it. If they just came out and said, "I don't care! I'm gonna get mine. FTW!" I could accept and even respect that. I won't ever judge anyone because their morals and ideals aren't the same as mine but that doesn't mean that I can't point them in the right direction, or abandon them to their fate. I think that we'll probably be right exactly where we are now in 10000 years. Society will collapse. A few will survive and carry on. The reasons for the collapse will be forgotten, and the cycle will repeat itself. I think it's happened a few times before. I'm writing a series of sci-fi- books about the process.
It has happened before... Anyways, that "my way is the only way" IS arrogance, whether you see it that way or not. There are many paths, you are only seeing yours.
I never said "My way is the only way." I have said that I have figured out "a way". If someone else comes up with something better, awesome! If someone else has a plan where they dig an underground shelter and have drones that go out and gather supplies for them, great! More power to them. I see a lot of people pointing out problems. I see a ton of people that aren't happy with their way of life. I see kids getting raised by a jacked up system instead of their parents and communities. I see the family and tribal units being totally destroyed. I see very few, if any real solutions, and I haven't seen any plans for sustainable living that can be accomplished by pretty much anyone, for less than a the cost to rent a studio apartment in the ghetto for six months. Most of the "green tech innovation" is inherently unsustainable because it relies on corporations, and most of it is so expensive that it's out of reach of the average joe. I've sat and researched for years and have done the best I can to combine the best ideas that humanity has conceived with some of my own. I'm 90% of the way there towards proving that it works for me at least and if it works for me, it will work for others. So back to the topic, work ethic. Someone that's working directly for their future, for their community, and for their environment is much more likely to take pride in their work than a depressed, brainwashed slave in an unsustainable system. It's amazing what free and inspired people can accomplish!
If you have some insight into these other ways, I'd love to chat about it. There's a thread here in the camping section called Permaculture Campgrounds for Creative types or something if you'd like to brainstorm there. I'm here to learn, teach, and wake people up. That's all. :book:
Native americans lived in harmony with their environment for many thousands of years. There a few tribes in the amazon that are still living traditionally too.
To answer a question I missed earlier. I actually have internet because I've been helping a friend with his property and projects for the last few years. Driftwood knows what's up. The system illegally borrowed against my future productivity, and under the guise of acting in my best interests, raped and pillaged the planet and transferred all of the value into the hands of the few. If there's something from this system that will help me survive, spread ideas, and create a new sustainable way of living, I'm going to use it as long as I'm not causing suffering or empowering any creeps by doing so.
AWESOME POST! i can't do all you do yet, unfortunately i'm still a wage slave.... but i stopped paying taxes, didn't get Obamacare, got did of Facebook and cellphone.... i'm working slowly towards disconnection from the system safely.... i totally respect and admire what you're doing dude.
Thanks! It took me a long time, like ten years, to figure out an exit strategy. I exited and the plan kinda failed at first but I've been able to survive and slowly adapt the original plan into something that will probably work. It will all come together for you when the time is right. And, being in a boat, you're actually in a great position to get out of the city when you need to. I think you're situstion is probably much more sustainable than you think. If you and your husband ever need some desert, come on out! You can keep living on the boat in the desert if you want to too. Just quit facebook a few weeks ago and damn it feels great!
Maybe some, but the entire southwest used to be forested, who do you think chopped it all down and used it for fuel? What happened to the Aztecs, the Maya, the Anasazi? Thier shit was not sustainable. Sure, some cultures lasted a long time, but only because the earth was more abundate with a lot less people taking from it. You can get all romantic about some of the plains indians and thier following of the buffalo, but the fact is they were brutal on some of the neighboring tribes, to the point where certain tribes were forced to live on the fringes, half starved and living off roots.
The Aztecs, Maya, Anasasi, Pueblans, along with many other native cultures are alive and thriving with us today. When their areas became inhospitable due to 30-40 year long droughts, storms, and other natural disasters, they picked up, moved somewhere more sustainable, and blended in with the locals. That is if they weren't killed by westerners, either through war or diesase. I realize that you're probably a little bit older than I am, just by your tone and the ideas you seem to be attatched to. You have to realize that a very good portion of the knowledge you think you have from coming up in the system of uncontrolled propaganda that surrounds us, is pretty much misinformation and has been debunked and replaced a few times over. For instance, when I worked Mesa Verde, a bunch of the signs got changed to reflect new opinions about dates, the cause of their disappearance, and how they lived. Nothing's set in stone, even cliff castles apparently! lol! Most of the history taught in schools in the 1900's regarding Native Americans has proven more recently to be wrong, racist, or propaganda to support a genocide. It's not your fault so I don't blame you for it and honestly, it's fun conversing with you, even though we may disagree. As far as sustainable tribal references go, you're not looking back near far enough, and you're not looking at tribes that are still alive today, and only dying off because our unsustainable culture is destroying our/their homelands. The ancient cultures that I'm referencing started getting over ran by farmers and civilization more than 10000 years ago. I could lnik a hundred studies and articles for you but your google works as well as mine and people are more likely to take their own research and the references they find more seriously. We don't even need to look at the past to see if the ideas I'm talking about work. I am and have been living by a few of them and will be implementing, proving, and displaying them all soon. If you look at humanity as a whole and compare it to an animal, organism, we can either keep living like a parasite, virus, or a cancer, or we can all start living like the monkeys we are. If we pick the parasite thing, we only have one host and a limited amount of resources, so we die. If we start living more like monkeys, living in small nomadic tribes that allow the land to heal as they move, using local, sustainable materials to provide for our needs, and spending most of our time doing whatever the heck we want, we can probably keep existing on this planet for a looong time. I'm going technomonkey!
So, your tactic is to insult, condesend, fein superior, and spout BS with absolutely nothing to back it up. I'll not waste anymore time with you.
This was me actually trying to put aside your previous attacky posts and be nice. I'm sorry that you took it as condescending. I thought the stuff I learned in school was mostly true until ten or so years ago and defended those ideas like you do, but a little bit of research opened up a whole world to me. Before the internet, it was easy to be tricked and I fell for the propaganda for over half of my life, or at least fell for it enough to keep participating, defending incorrect information, versions of history, and lifestyles, but since all of the information in the world became available, the journey to truth has been amazing! I'm just trying to get you on the road. This guy is brilliant, talks about permaculture, ancient cultures, and everything he says is backed up by studies, universities, and research. All of his videos are great. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8p5Vdgq9ouc&list=UUNDARIeBD6aPnxaBW5YxLpQ This guy has lived moneyfree in Moab, UT for years now and has great ideas. He left his last $30 in a phonebooth and walked away. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=daniel+suelo This guy also lives moneyfree. He is a contributionist and has great ideas. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=mark+boyle+moneyless+man Here he is with a forager: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ukZBung2eoM If the guys above had something like this, but better, they could be moneyfree, free, mobile, self sufficient, have stuff, a place to cook and clean up, power, etc....and here's the kicker....without having to rely upon or participate in a jacked up system! And here's the bigger kicker......If they can do it, anyone else that wants to can do it! If enough people do it, the unsustainable system that everyone's sick of or unknowingly being raped by will quickly, peacefully collapse! http://gajitz.com/custom-electric-bike-camper-for-short-jaunts-to-the-beach/ Anyway, at this point, I think I've probably posted every thought I have on this forum. lol I can probably just quote myself or link threads from here on out... Can't say I didn't try! Much love at ya GongShaman! Didn't mind to bind yer panties... https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=daniel+suelo
