So I haven’t been able to find the answer to this, and I figure who better to ask them hedonists themselves? Hedonism is maximizing pleasure, and minimizing pain. And yet masochists can experience pleasure from pain. Or people who get off on self mutilation, they’re experiencing pleasure from pain. You can also have so much pleasure at one point that it starts to hurt, or not feel good because it’s too intense, so pleasure can be pain as well. So wouldn’t hedonisms next step be living for experience instead of just pleasure, since pain and pleasure can be one and the same? my question for you all though, is this. Why is it that more people don’t think this way? Why do people continue to only live for pleasure and hate pain when the logic shows you can turn pain to pleasure and pleasure to pain? Would it not be better to just learn how to enjoy all of it? Or is there something I’m not seeing? Thanks, I’m looking forward to hearing back from you all.
Reminds me of Nozick's Experience Machine. But who wants a crap experience? What's the ultimate purpose of "experience?"
the better hedonist minimizes pain by keeping healthy and promoting quality of life for all, after all a hedonist loves to see happy, healthy people
