using Fireworks i never had any problem altering images to fit allowed sizes but I am now.
Messin about with Gimp to get file size down has resulted in pics that are not worth posting, even at quarter size and 25% quality I cant whittle them down enough to fit on here so will have to link to stuff i'd like to post instead.
what do you use to resize your images quickly?

Try PhotoScape for pc. It will resize any number of images at once. It also works well with animated gifs, unlike photoshop. And it's free!

Any photo editor, you don't need fancy software. It will be hard to explain, as there is no universal system. But any photo editor should have something along the lines of "Tools>Adujust size..>Enter new size"

My tip, obviously constrain proportions (otherwise you need to crop), and when lowering the image size, increase the image resolution. Nothing should be below 72ppi, when going small I'd even suggest trying to go to 200ppi.
