Because sleepy hasn't gotten his act together making the thread. Deutschland: 1: Rhine ferry. I love traveling up and down the whine on the ferry stopping off at the small medieval towns along the way doing wine tasting. I could do this every day of the week. The Rhine is fabulous. If you're into site seeing, especially fortresses and castles then this is a great journey as the edges of the Rhine are littered with them. 100+ on the whole river. 2: Oktoberfest: Everyone that likes beer needs to come to this. It's a fabulous event, if you're into drinking and if not come for the carnival atmosphere. You'll find me in the Löwenbräu tents and pavilions. They're generally the more energetic and rowdy tents in my experience though I've had fun times in the Späten arenas. 3: Hofbräuhaus: A very large bier hall with a lot of history and those scrumptious pork knuckles are to die for. And if you're not into the food or drink the entertainment is great and cultural. There's always good times at any bier hall or bier garden really. 4: Hockenheim: Vroom Vroom. Although it's been cancelled this year, Is a great track to watch the F1 and enjoy the motor carnival. Both tracks this year aren't ready for the event so i might have to jump border to the Austrian A1 Ring if I'm going to see the Formula One this year. 5: Bavaria: In general, it's just lovely. If you like mountains and forests then it's the landscape to be in. It never ceases to amaze me really, living here and just how enormous it really all is. My favorite place is Neushwanstein castle, that fantasy castle I post a lot about on this forum. The treck up and around is fun, though steep.. take the horse and carriage if need be but the view up and around the palace is breathtaking. I visit this place multiple times a year and they tend to be very peaceful little holidays. Gorgeous little bed and breakfasts about the small town too.
America The attractions are too numerous from Mount Rushmore, Big Sur, The Grand Canyon, Redwood Forest, Washington Mall, the Florida Everglades...the list is virtually endless So I’ll mention a few lesser known attractions…. Bigfoot Museum (California) Carhenge (Nebraska) The Basket Building (Ohio) Lucy the Elephant (NJ) The Little A’Le’Inn (Rachael NV) Coral Castle (FLA) Voodoo Museum (LA) World’s largest ball of twine (KS) Hotwater
If you like nature and the outdoors the Finger Lakes Region of New York State is stunning. Lakes, gorges, waterfalls, lots of walking spaces etc.
i haven't visited nearly enough places in my country to guess at which would be best. best things to do: me, of course.
the best things to do, are to make things, wherever you happen to be, to be making them. its fun to explore places too. but to look for the little things, that people don't make a big deal about. the odd little niche corners, the blundering herd ignore, for their lack of useless drama. the little hippie soup and home made bread place that's around the corner from the five stars that are on everyone else's map. and the thing about that, i mean pretty much nothing gets popular without getting ruined in the process. but i'm sure in ever village and city in the world, there are my kind of places. each one may only be there for a very few years, so they're kind of a needle in a haystack in time as well as space. and pretty much the only way to find them, is to actually live in a place enough years to see them come and go and other ones do so too.
Things to do in South Australia... Visit the Barossa Valley wine region (and drink all the wine) Check out the Blue Lake and... Umpherston Sinkhole Gardens at Mount Gambier. Hike the Flinders Ranges. Camp at Wilpena Pound. Whale watching at Victor Harbor. Explore the Naracoorte caves. You can also go strawberry picking in the Adelaide Hills, look for opal at Coober Pedy and go fishing at many seaside locations.
Lesser attractions? I'd say. It wouldn't even make my top 20 list for the city of New Orleans. Interested in voodoo? It's easy to find an active priest in that city who mantains a functioning voodoo altar. I know two of them. USA: New Orleans (everything except the voodoo museum) Niagra Falls Grand Canyon San Francisco + coastline south Yosemite National Park Florida Keys - especially Key West Washington DC - monuments and Smithsonian museums Chicago - downtown and lakefront New River Gorge, WV Grandfather Mountain, NC
sounds like something i'd be more interested in doing then all the big deal things people pay to go see. i really like doing things when there isn't the pressure of trying to keep a job to have to live off of. if and when i ever get another vehicle where i can get there, and we're both still alive, i might just take you up on that.
Ummm..... No. That guy doesn't hand you a saw. He removes your hand with a saw. There's a difference.
I've been to almost all lower 48 states. Have always drove to and from as well. Some I went off road into canyons up and over passes, or down south to New Orleans and bayous. Few places I went to that are cool as hell and not pimped out as attractions, Tuskegee Alabama to the Tuskegee airmen museum. Great place, awesome people and tons of history! Yep, only honky around for miles! Biloxi/gulf port beaches area, best sand in the USA! Driving the gulf Coast highway is beautiful as well. Georgia is the asshole of America! Worst state in the union! I drove through the whole state highways and back roads, nothing but trash, dumps and meth heads. A nice scenic drive is up through Appalachia on 448 iirc. Two lane road that climbs up through the smokey mountains, only downside is it ends in the redneck/inbred capital of the world, Gatlinburg TN. Nothing but a toothless 'Disneyland' on a mountain side! Of all the places I have been, Louisiana and Mississippi are the best places I have been to. Great people and places to visit. Too many places and things to see. Nothing better than cruising back roads through each Parrish!
