it's good that you've heard american beauty first. i think you should go with working man's dead, It has more of a country and bluesy kind of feel, but it's really great. here are my 3 favorite tracks- cumberland blues, black peter, casey jones
message me i have all studio albums, all studio outake albums.(you should hear what fire on the mountain was gonna sound like)and 324 cd concerts. 89 caseette tapes. and also a lot of video footage. i even have this one video clip of jerry taking a crap! hehe no not really that would be totally wrong and gross. but whatever you want i will give to you. For blanks and postage though.
i know you want a studio album, but if you want the best GratefulDead album you wont find it in the studio - The G.D. were not known for there studio albums. The best G.D. album in my opinion was DicksPick's Vol.8
go here: http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=grateful%20dead%20AND%20mediatype%3Aetree%20AND%20collection%3Aetree as far as studio albums go I really like In The Dark. oh I found SProuts Link..Go HERE
well i'm a firm believer in WORKINGMAN'S DEAD as their best studio album, i would not recommend so highly the studio stuff after it, especially terrapin station era studio albums just annoy me.
My vote is on American Beauty by a slim margin too...just such a groovy sound, I often play it when I'm going to sleep... but I'm a big fan of all their albums.
Wow! Those are exactly the two I was going to say. I'll trhow in an honorable mention for Mars Hotel, too.
I mean, as played out as it might seem American Beauty and Workingman's Dead are probably the two best studio albums there are by the Dead. In song writing and performance those are it but I really love Mars Hotel alot and would recommend it.
thank you! i'm sure the live ones are great, also! it's SO hard to choose which cd i'll buy next! AH!
listen if your serious about the best grateful dead album, its a live album the dead's studio work is shit compared to their Live performances in DicksPicks. volume 8, and 10 are really good from those.
well, obviosly the live ones are great, but i was thiknig i'd get studio first and then live, but whatever
Well, I'll toss in my vote for LIVE music! It's just SO much better! Actually, I tell ya what. Pick up an album of your choice (I like Terrapin Station, also the previously mentioned "Live Dead" is really good). Then, if you're interested, I'll mail you some CDs of dead concerts. I have somewhere around 150 shows so you're bound to find something you like! Email me and I'll point you to a list of some of my shows. humandraydel
