Meddle/Darkside/Wish you were here and The Wall. Off to see the Mighty Roger performing the Wall next year in Manchester
fave pink floyd albums, dark side of the moon and the wall, absolute classics from the 70's and the best pink floyd has ever done musically in my opinion, so that's all and rock on hard!!!
A lot of people hate it, some love it, but Ummagumma takes the cake for me. Such a great experimental album. Get really stoned and listen to all of the second disc. Awesome. The live tracks are amazing. Otherwise, Meddle and Animals were pretty heavy.
The Wall and Dark Side most definitely. Meddle, Animals, and Atom Heart Mother are high up there also.
But they have so many great albums. How to decide. "Best". Wow. I guess I can just say that if I picked a "favorite", it would end up being Wish you were here. I don;t know why exactly, and I dearly love other of their albums seemingly just as much. But atm I would pick Wish as my favorite. But we're talking micro-degrees of favorite here. Some of their "best" stuff comprise only part of an album. So to think of best "overall" album I suppose. Their theme albums (Dark, Wall, etc.) are all very strong. I could probably easily pick Dark side of the moon as the best, except for one thing I have about it. It's Money. There is nothing at all wrong with that song, but for some reason I cannot stand hearing it most of the time. If I play Dark side while by myself (which is most of the time lol), I will usually skip that track. I don't know why exactly I feel that way but I do. So to me Dark side is best without Money. And since Money is on the album I can't exclude it from the consideration. So ... since that's a big subtraction imo then Dark side can't get "best" unless all their remaining albums are lesser overall. (Ofc at the same time, Great gig in the sky is such a majorly wonderful tune that maybe the results even out. hmmm...) The Wall doesn't have any major subtractions like Money imo; so I suppose I'd think of it better than Dark side I dearly love Echoes and Fearless (which always makes me think of the movie Close Encounters when I hear it ) and One of these days, and I guess pretty much all of the rest of the songs, so Meddle is a contender for sure. Atom Heart Mother is another favorite of mine. Even though I've read that the band members themselves didn't think highly of the namesake track; I think it's one of their greats. And if they don't all think much of it; and kind of just "kick it to the curb"; then that, to me, just shows their genius. IOW, because if they can take such a great tune and consider it basically a "throw away"; then it's like they are shitting gold and flushing it. Even their shit is golden. Wish you were here, my "favorite" (by micro-degrees, remember?) is a strong contender. Animals. It's kind of an understated album. But every tune on it is excellent. A momentary lapse of reason. It seems oddly easy for me to not consider it as a core album (same with Division bell); but I do actually like it quite a bit. So it's also a contender. Hmmm, having never really thought about which is their best; I find it hard to pick one (micro-degrees again lol). Okay, I choose The Wall. But it's a very very close match-up between at least all the above. It's really kind of a "pull a number out of the hat" choice when it comes to the work of Pink Floyd.
It's got to be Meddle, nothing is quite as perfect. I must admit some love for "Dogs" off Animals though.
Hahah my friend played Echoes in its entirety at the bowling alley he works at. Not a very positive reaction to the bowlers at the time. Anyway, Meddle is my favorite, despite my opinion that "San Tropez" and "Seamus" suck.
Tricky, Liking Pipers and Saucerful, Dark Side and Wish you were here Guess I'm somewhat Dazed and Confused (Oops, sorry, wrong Group!) At the moment if pushed I'll go for: Wish you were here
