Piper at the gates of dawn is my favorite album, no question about it. Second.... i would have to say meddle.
I think floyd are a very over-rated band. I've always found their music a bit boring and ordinary. The later stuff, the wall onwards is just depressive shite.
Pink Floyd does not have a 'best album'. They evolved so much as a band between 'Piper' and 'The Division Bell' that they encompassed several genres while creating some of their own in the process.
Anyone seen the new Stoppard play, Rock 'n' Roll - it's all about Syd Barrett and this prog rock fan from 68 onwards, it's brilliant and full of great tunes
Dark Side of The Moon always puts me in this weird place... i don't know, but Pink Floyd always fucks with my mind, and this album especially, so yay.
Wish you Were Here is my favorite album that I've heard. But I shouldn't talk because I still haven't listened to Meddle. Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts I-V) is proabably my favorite Floyd song.
Animals is my favorite because it is the most consistant. I'm a huge Floyd fan, but every other album seems to have at least one song that I can't stand. On Piper, Scarecrow's novelty wears of real fast and it just becomes anoying. On Saucerful there are some dull songs (can't remember their names just now), on Umma Gumma Grantchesters Meadow is dull, on Atom Heart Mother Summer 68 and Alans Psychadelic Breakfast are both completely unlistenable, on Meddle A pillow of winds and Seamus are both dull, on Dark Side I find Money annoying, on Whish You Were Here Welcome to the Machine is tedious and dull, The Wall is a mixed bag with concept and lyrics more important than musical qualitie, same with The Final Cut, Momentary Lapse more or less sucks, and the best thing I can say for Division Bell is that it is better than Momentary. BTW, Amused to Death is the best Pink Floyd album that Pink Floyd never recorded, and is much better in music and concept than most Floyd albums.
wow, amused to death is a personal favourite of mine. not many people even claim that amused to death is that great, let alone, even heard the damn album... I personally love it. and when I saw waters in 99, when he played a bunch of songs off of amused to death, I was in heaven! I kind of disagree with whatever else you said though. you must admit that the floyd put out albums that you could listen to from front to end, not only on animals, but many of the other ones. they never really had any filler. and I like summer '68 and money. and scarecrow even.
I'll listen to them end to end, but certain songs will bug me, and Animals is just the one where I really love every song.
