I've put this here so if we are in the uk we can discuss this among others who know the car being mentioned, lets be honest an American probably won't have a clue what a Mini Metro or ford Escort is. Anyway I'll kick off with the old Austin Maxi, the back of the rear seat used to drop into the bootspace, it had a short handbrake and gearstick and with the front seats reclined you basically had a double bed on wheels.
Well, now that you mention it? I had a good job in high school that paid me quite a bit. I bought my very first, brand new, car when I was 17. It was a 1965 Barracuda. The first cool thing I discovered was that it had air vents on both sides under the dash that had doors on them that opened. And those vents were just the right size to put a six pack of beer in. So, in the cool months you had built-in beer coolers. You simply opened the little door, got one out, and then closed it back up. The second thing I noticed was that the back seat laid down with a huge window to the stars above. And there was a door that opened into the small trunk that allowed you to stretch out completely. So, what better way to take a gal on a date? After a few cold beers, hop in the back to look at the stars.
I remember that car well. I’m sure I’m correct in saying that the tv advert for it placed a lot of emphasis on its ability for the seats to fold down into a double bed. I always smiled at that knowing what similar horny young men like myself imagined putting it to good use. As it was, I had to make do with borrowing my dad’s Morris 1800. That had amazing space in the back and performed well as a shagging wagon.
I presume you mean the new mini. The old mini would be a bit cramped me thinks and it doesn't bear thinking about were the gear stick could end up.
M My wife did it for a previous boyfriend but not for me but that might be down to the rather chunky automatic shifts in our cars. Or maybe I haven’t been enthusiastic enough in asking.
I once attempted it in an Austin mini........ It didn’t last long and it wasn’t my fault! Unanimous agreement to give up as the idea was impractical to say the least..... After cooling down we went back to the party.
