Yes, someone mentioned him, I wouldn't have him at the top of my list, but Phil Lynot would definitly be in my top 5, yet he's so underrated.
I didn't read through all the post, but Les Claypool had better be on the list. Primus, oysterhead, Coloniel Claypool's bucket of bernie brains, all some of the greatest bands ever. Les claypool is by far the greastest bass player IMO.
not the best but some of my fav bassists are chris #2 - ANTI-FLAG matt freeman - RANCID krist novoselic - nirvana fat mike - nofx john paul jones - led zeppelin cliff burton - metallica benny (cant remember his name lol) - incubus
actually, most of the bass lines on Jimis Electric Ladyland are Jimis, not noels. Jimi was a very creative bassist in the studio, and on occasional nights would play bass live in the Experience to pacify Noels desire to play guitar. Hes not Pastorius, who it was said when he played "you could hear the sound of instrument cases clicking shut" as guys put it away for good. Stanley Clarke is a fine and versatile bassist, precision smooth. As for rock bassist, Jack Casady of Airplane also gets my vote - he walks it down the street and back!
Roger Waters is kind of crappy, but the stuff he's playing is very good sounding anyway. I like it simple.
It's not an effing competition. It's all about making music that people like, not being able to play at 240 beats per second.
Jaco is awesome John Paul Jones-You have to listen to the bass solo on the Lemon Song Geezer Butler-Just Plain Awesome Someone said Jack Bruce-He kicks butt Noel Redding is an awesome bassist Bob Marley bassist. Rolling Stones bassist No one mentioned me yet...
