stp- dancing days dave mathews-long black veil anything by the dead ccr-grapevine lennon-stand by me clapton-knockin on heavens door jimi or dave-watchtower
Worst cover Don't leave me this way by Communards, totally soulless insipid version of great soul song which simultaneously for Thelma Houston + Harold Melvin + Bluenotes which are both brill. Gary US Bonds does great cover Jackson Browne's The pretender. Many more great covers too numerous to name.
Cowboy Junkies do some great covers: Springsteen's "State Trooper" and "Thunder Road" Grateful Dead's "To Lay Me Down" George Harrison's "Isn't It A Pity" and of course "Sweet Jane" cheers, John
best covers: HIM : Wicked Glame - its better than the original Rebel yell Nightwish - phantom of the opera Hendrix - all along the watchtower hey joe Nirvana - man who sold the world Marilyn manson - tainted love - very sleazy - great stuff! lol Incubus - turning japanese Gary jules - mad world peace and love xxxxx
Faith, sing better than Janis? Haha, that's impossible. Faith is an okay singer, Janis is one of the best there ever was. Janis added emotion and style and...she's Janis, for God's sake.
COVERS BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL: Tom Waits - Ol' 55 (The Eagles) Gary Jules - Mad World (Tears for Fears) Nirvana - The Man who sold the world (David Bowie) (OK, this is COMPARABLE to the original, I can't decide which is better) Red Hot Chili Peppers - Love Rollercoaster (Ohio Players) Johnny Cash - Personal Jesus (Depeche Mode) Beck - He's a Mighty Good Leader (Skp James) GOOD COVERS: Beck - Your Cheatin' Heart (Hank Williams) A Perfect Circle - Imagine (John Lennon) Rage Against the Machine - Maggie's Farm (Bob Dylan) Widespread Panic - Peace Frog (The Doors) String Cheese Incident - The Wedge (Phish) Black Betty - Spiderbait (Ram Jam) Ghost in You - Robyn Hitchcock (Psychadelic Furs) Dark Side of the Moon (entire album, live) - Phish (Pink Floyd) Everyday - Pearl Jam (Buddy Holly) Masters of War - Pearl Jam (Bob Dylan) I'm Set Free - Beck, Thom Yorke, Eddie Veder (The Velvet Underground) Rocket Man - My Morning Jacket (Elton John) A Day in the Life (instrumental cover) - Jeff Beck (Beatles) Nobody Told Me - The Flaming Lips (John Lennon) Who Loves the Sun? - Beck & the Flaming Lips (The Velvet Underground) COVERS THAT SHOULDN'T HAVE HAPPENED: Behind Blue Eyes - Limp Biskit (The Who) I'm sure there's more horrid covers, but I probably haven't listened to them long enough to remember them... that Limp Biskit one though is just unforgivably wrong.
The Jehtro Tull: Too Young To Rock 'N Roll; Too Young To Die album cover does nothing for me. It's a distasteful yellow with a cartoon on the front. It Seems like a last minute job. However, the Wall album art (the record) is something I can dig.
don't know if it it has been written here, but I'll say Britney Spears with I love rock and roll. Ok, the song it's not good either, but she makes it sound even worst... :S
Rarely go a bundle on cover versions but Ella Fitzgerald's cover of Cream's "Sunshine of Your Love" is one of my favourite covers of all-time, a right belter of a track. Funnily enough Hendrix's live impromptu live version of the same song on the Lulu Show was pretty good too when he heard Cream had just split. Always preferred Aretha Franklin's cover of "Respect" to Otis Redding's original. Way too many shit covers to list
Children of Bodom and Cradle of Filth both cover Iron Maiden's "hallowed be thy name" and they both rock hard. HIM covers Blue oyster cult's "dont fear the reaper" and its alright. Six Feet Under cover AC/DC "Hells Bells" Blind guardian did a couple of Maiden covers that were pretty good
I was just going to randomly post that the Scissor Sisters do a pretty interesting cover of "Comfortably Numb" But then I decided to say that the most interesting one I ever heard was Guns n' Roses and Eric Clapton doing a cover of Bohemian Rhapsody...pretty cool. My personal favorite cover is the Reel Big Fish doing 'Take on Me'
I love Psychic TV's version of Set The Controls For the Heart Of the Sun. I hate Slayer's version of ANarchy in the UK (USA in their version)
