Police have said the juggernaut which crashed into the Xmas market had Polish number plates and belonged to a Polish delivery company. The company said the truck left Poland this afternoon heading to Berlin and that they lost touch with the driver at 4pm local time. It would appear that the lorry might have been hijacked.

 

Eh with the way they've handled Köln, I wouldn't be surprised if toook them a while to release information, and names, and background

 

According to Polish media reports, the truck had a Polish numberplate and was registered to a Polish company. The company’s owner, Ariel Żurawski, was quoted on television as saying he had the utmost confidence in the driver, who he says is his cousin. The driver’s wife reportedly lost contact with him during the afternoon ahead of the crash.
“The person who jumped out of the truck, it’s not my driver,” Żurawski told Polish news channel TVN24.
TVN24 reports the truck was on its way from Italy and was supposed to be unloaded in Berlin on Tuesday morning at 8am. It claims this means the vehicle was fully loaded, with some 20 tonnes of steel.

Oh and a passenger has been found dead in the truck (could that be that Polish guy?)

 

If they still had the wall up, wonder if could have been stopped.

According to Die Welt, the driver was from Pakistan. Came to Germany in February.
Not officially confirmed though.
