Since I've had some time off from work, I haven't touched a pair of socks since last Wednesday. Even going to a friends' house both days over the weekend, all I wore were house slippers, and most of the time while there I still walked around barefoot.

We are shy at first but it's easier to have someone else going barefoot wi
It's easier if you have someone else go barefoot with you . And act normal people will not even notice that's the trick i used when i was a teenager and it works .

Alas that is always what I thought, but it seemed many times to go wrong. I would walk in barefoot on a dry day and damn! my foot would hit a little moisture, a spilled drink or something dropped, and I would slip in front of people. Or the day in 1979 when I first got ejected from anywhere, a mall. One, it was bad enough coming through a side entrance and here comes a mall cop straight towards me, but two, I was reaching for something in my pocket and out spills a bunch of coins on the floor, causing me to stop and calling attention to myself. Sigh! Interesting that for years where I lived the malls had signs prohibiting bare feet, but never once was I hassled and never saw anyone asked to leave. From then on, it seemed to spread everywhere. Sad day.

Glad we could help. Sadly, I don't have this luxury because of the weather. -23C (-9.4F), and expected to get worse next week, so right now, for the next couple of weeks, every time I leave the house, socks become a matter of necessity.

Oh, that Australia is looking so good right now...

I've been wanting to, but right now both money and shit in my private life are holding me back (please, no details). That Australia that I mentioned... If I wanna go there, I'm looking at paying somewhere in the order of 1500$ just for the flight. Plus God knows how much more for visa, food and lodging. And places like Thailand, India, Bali, Mexico and Brazil seem downright scary, what with all the corruption, tourist scams and downright violence, all things that I don't care to deal with.

Mediterranean countries would be easily reachable, but they're no good during winter. Even Spain is now having near zero temperatures because of the Siberian cold front. And I've been hesitating visiting the US ever since they adopted the mentality that anyone entering is potentially a terrorist.

But one of these days I should definitely try to escape, if only for one winter. It indeed got worse, and I'm currently "enjoying" -27C (-16.6F) here, and it's no fun. Right now I can only barefoot in the house.

If you think like that you'll never go anywhere. Also: try to stay away from stereotypes.

You should really check actual temperatures before buying into the media hype.

Dude with your paranoia I think it's safe to say you will never go anywhere.

Aside from your local supermarket maybe.

Oh my... It seems that somebody's a bit triggered.

I assume you have the knowledge and life experience to prove me wrong? Eh, ghost boy?

No, ghost boy is right. The people of Thailand are universally so nice that it takes a couple of days to realize that it isn’t a put-on. Scams? Maybe a tourist pays $1.50 for a meal that would cost a local $0.90. So what. You’re incredibly wealthy in their world. What’s an extra few cents?

Bring along some common sense and don’t let fear of different cultures keep you from experiencing the world.

If I wear even just socks I still get the "blue cheese" effect and so no, no socks for me. Hell, my feet can sweat even in cold weather with just a blanket over them. go figure

And yet you spread lies and straw men arguments like this:

Bro, get outta here. I do my homework and don't look the world trough rose-tinted glasses. All those Burmese refugees, who are made to work in the Thai juice factories in slavery-like conditions must surely also appreciate the hospitality of their Thai hosts, amirite? Long hours, next to no pay. Papers confiscated, if the refugee even had any to begin with. Sounds real comfy. And their silly lèse-majesté laws that they could use to land you a stiff prisons sentence, if you say something bad about the royal family, even by accident. Not to mention, the completely unreasonable treatment that you get (weeks to months of incarceration in a shithole cell), if you accidentally overstay your visa. Yeah, doesn't sound like the type of paradise and society that I should support with my meager income.
