P.s-modelling children intensively is wrong. (a few photos for maybe a magazine or catalogue would be ok, actually displaying them to the point where youre putting makeup on their faces is not)
i think it's just trolling for pedophiles and some pathetic mother trying live vicariously through her children. i think my babies are gorgeous and wonderful and i love nothing more than showing people how unblieveably cute they are. but i'm not gonna doll up my kid like a barbie and sexualize her. i like her exactly like she is. she's going to have enough trouble growing into her identity without me trying to create an artificial one for her.
The beauty show industries are similar to those in the youth sports/cheerleading arenas. These three industries must be affiliated w/the legal/automotive sales folks...
Image is everything here in america. I agree we need a good shake up. But keep shit in prespective, not all parents put their kids in it for the purpose to sexualize them. So what, just because a handful of people grew up with self esteem problems from it, doesn't mean every single kid that was involved in one has the same issues. I'm sure there are people out there who it helped boost their self esteem/confidence but because they don't post on this board, they don't exist . And the inquiry about it drawing pedophiles? Do you people have any sense up there or is it all clouded by pipe dream hippy propaganda. Driving while drunk causes deaths, how many still do it? J-walking increases your chances of getting hit, how many still do it? Smoking causes cancer, how many still do it?
Beauty pageants in general are absolutely ridiculous. I just LOOOOVE being judged based solely on my looks (and give me a break...have you ever seen an UGLY Miss America???) Talent? Well Versed? Yeah right. I worked with a former Miss Michigan...and she was as dumb as a box of rocks...couldn't even figure out how to fill out her time sheet *rolls eyes* And the kiddie pageants are even MORE disgusting. It makes me laugh to hear parents say that their kids "like" being in pageants. They don't LIKE being in pageants...they might like putting on the frilly dresses and the makeup, but I highly doubt they tell their mom's they WANT to do pageants. Pageant mom's, sports parents...etc...DO live vicariously through their children (like kc said)..it is absolutely disgusting. Makes me sick... I'm a dance instructor and I carefully choose costumes and music that DO NOT show a lot of skin or suggest anything sexual. HOWEVER, being in the dance industry, I've seen inappropriate costumes and music used with young children. I feel bad for the children that they are exposed to that. I do suggest the parents put a bit of make up on the girls (pink lipstick and a little blush, so they don't look washed out from the audience) for the recital, but it is not required and I totally respect the parent that doesn't put the make up on their kid...because I sure has hell don't wear make up...who am I to say??? I think it teaches kids that you have to be perfect...and putting on a facade of perfection is the only way to make it in the world. I think it is bullshit and I think that it instills the WRONG values into our society. DOWN WITH BEAUTY PAGEANTS!
Yes, I would love to see my small child dressed as a hooker so that I could tell everyone how beautiful she is and feel proud of myself.
