Do you think the BBC is slanted more to the left or the right of the political spectrum? Did you know that the BBC had representatives at last year's Bilderberg Group convention? I find this shocking.
Our governments can change overnight at a general election, so leaning to the left or right would be a suicide mission for the directors of the BBC. They are renowned throughout the world for accurate and balanced reporting. While it is true that it is reported from the UKs perspective, deviating from the truth would land them in very hot water. Attending conventions is the only way to report accurately on a situation and I have never regarded their presence at a situation as showing either their own of our governments support. What you are suggesting is almost like saying that when they report on a bank robbery, the government support robbing banks. Like our police force, they have to be free from party political influence.
Ideally the public channels display/represent the whole spectrum. I don't watch enough BBC these days to state how it seems to me. But I'm very fond of the three public channels in the Netherlands.
I would say that the BBC is not just one homogeneous organization that automatically holds one consistent party line. Employees, from information gatherers upwards to presenters obviously will have their own political sympathies, some people being more left, right or green than others. The Greens have bipartisan support from many regardless of their political persuasion, although nobody is taking the environmental issues seriously enough. So there is not one person at the top telling people how to think and telling everyone what to say. But the director general has to enforce the rule of impartiality as much as possible. Nevertheless employees will either consciously or unconsciously bend their work ever so slightly so as to subtly convey their own ideology. This is because absolute impartiality is not humanly possible. So what I am saying is that even at the BBC there is this game being played in the battle for hearts and minds. By the way, the BBC was not at the Bilderberg Group convention in a reporting capacity, they were invited as equal partners. They were there in the capacity as World shapers and manipulators. Nobody is allowed to leak information from Bilderberg Group meetings. It is naïve to say that the BBC, (despite what I have said about the small autonomy of its employees), doesn't have some kind of program and socially directed rationale that it wants to get across to the British public. Some of this which I see is good and some bad. For example, CBBC, the children's channel, recently extended broadcast of its shows from 6:00pm or so to 9:30pm or so, when children should really be doing their homework. With all the distractions which beset children now, do they really need encouragement to get back from school and watch the tell-lie-vision from 4:30 till 9:00?
They're on a hiding to nothing really. The Tories and right-wing media constantly hack at them for being too left-wing, whilst The Left complain they're too conservative (with a small 'c') and drop Labour politicians down the running order at the expense of Tory ones, not to mention that **** Nigel Farage. He's been on Question Time more times than David Dimbleby.
Seems like British people have issues with the BBC. But as an American I think they are excellent news that tells you the facts. Your opinion is what you make of those facts. To me they are more "left" because "right" to me is Fox news. I don't know about local UK issues and how people see them but they cover the world well.
What you say is true. The BBC have been there through countless changes of government and are no doubt aware that taking sides on party political issues would result result in a lot of redundancy cheques at the next change of government. They are appointed to report the news (not make it up), so not attending the Bilderberg convention would have shown a definite bias and heads could well have rolled. Another good point is that they make a lot of effort to illustrate the difference between everyday decent Muslims living here and the extremists who have hijacked their religion. These programs do a huge amount to reassure the decent people and prevent them from feeling outcast and being radicalized. We are very lucky in the UK, that our ITV news works along similar lines.
The BBC is establishment personified. It is a Government State Apparatus. It's reporting is timid, lazy and simplistic, and it assumes a low level of intelligence for its viewers. I have my reasons to hate the BBC, but I can't go into it here. I never watch ITV.
as far as i can discern the BBC are centre pro government. so they are basically tory wen tories r in power (actual scum) and basically labour wen labour r in power (good people) basically.... so its not simple discern that different news presenters are different inclined politically itv is better imo
I am not a great fan of Chanel 4 in general, so I rarely watch their news programs. Do you find them balanced, of do you consider them biased.?
That's a tough question to answer. I suppose it's like anything else, a matter of perspective. Generally speaking I don't watch much news on any given day. Just enough to stay well informed on hot button tops or sport. Personally I prefer STV for my news so there you have it.
