The story is NOT MY. I found it when I searching internet. You can give opinion if you enjoy it. Erika was new in town. She had just moved to the US from Germany, and she had no friends. She was starting school tomorrow, and she wasn't looking forward to it. "It's November the school semester is already half over I will never be able to make any friends!" She thought as she laid in bed. She was a little cold, despite wearing very thick socks as well as pyjamas and laying under many bed covers. She was always a little cold, she supposed. The next day at school went okay and she even started talking to a girl named Sarah. Sarah was in Erika's Math and Drama class, which were right next to each other. Soon enough Erika and Sarah became friends and it wasn't long until Sarah invited Erika to her house, and she accepted. Erika and Sarah were walking along the snowy sidewalk to Sarah's house after school. They were joking around and having fun. They entered the house and both took off their hats, jackets, boots, but Sarah also took her socks off. It was early December, it was freezing outside, and yet this girl had gone barefoot. Erika wasn't paying attention to this, she was just talking about something else. After Erika took her shoes off and stayed in her socks, Sarah asked her "Hey don't you wanna take your socks off too? Your feet must hurt after wearing them all day." Erika froze. The only time she had gone barefoot was when she took a shower. She never liked baring her feet. She always wore socks, even when she slept, even in the middle of summer. She was never sure why, but that's just how things always were, but now she didn't know what to do. She saw Sarah looking at her weirdly, so she knew that staying in her socks would just weird out her new and only friend, but taking her socks off would also make her extremely uncomfortable and shy. She decided she had no choice so she said a quiet "Sure" and she took her socks off. Sarah's expression immediately changed and she became alot happier. She said "Hey that's cool do you hate socks too?" "Y-yeah I can't stand them" Erika lied. "Yeah same, I never wear them unless I absolutely have to." said Sarah. Erika was uncomfortable, and her bare feet and soles were absolutely freezing on the hardwood floor. They both watched TV and even played some video games, which is what they bonded over the most. But the entire time Erika couldn't stop thinking of her feet. They were exposed, everyone could see them. She kept trying to hide her feet from view, both to cover them from the cold and from anyone else's eyes, as she was very shy. Sarah's mother came into the room bringing the girls dinner. She saw Erika's barefeet and noticed her red toes and asked Erika "Honey aren't your feet freezing? It's really cold in here." Erika's toes were freezing, but she lied and just shaked her head no. Sarah then said "We are fine Mom, thanks". "Alright girls, you just be careful. I know you both like going barefoot but don't catch a cold. Have fun". Eventually it was time for bed. Erika had originally said she was going to stay for a sleepover but now she was regretting that. She wanted nothing more than to put her socks and shoes back on and go home, but she couldn't. Erika spent almost the entire night awake. Even though she was under the covers her feet were still extremely cold and she was unable to sleep. Eventually the morning came and a few hours later Erika would leave. As soon as she got to the door Erika started to put her socks on, but then Sarah said "You're putting your socks back on? It's not that cold outside. Your mom is picking you up isn't she?" Erika managed a quiet "Yeah" and put her socks in her pockets, put her boots over her barefeet, put her jacket and hat on, said goodbye to her new friend, and left. Erika's mom was waiting just across the street. She was not going to tell her mom that she was currently not wearing socks. She just couldn't. "So how were things yesterday?" Erika's mother asked. "Great. Sarah is a good friend" Erika said. She really liked Sarah as a friend, but she really disliked her stay there. When they got home Erika lied that she had to go to the bathroom and rushed to it as soon as she got inside, not taking her boots or any of her clothes off. Once she was in the bathroom she took her boots off and put her socks back on. She sighed, relaxing. Finally her feet weren't bare anymore. Things returned to normal. At school she was still a great friend with Sarah and of course the bare feet never got in the way of their friendship, as they both wore shoes at school. One day though, the principal announced a new rule right before Winter Break. "During Winter Break we will have carpets installed across the entire school. When you come in, you will have to take off your shoes and leave them in your lockers and stay in your socks, wear slippers, or go barefoot." Sarah leaned over to Erika and said "Wow that's amazing! We can go barefoot all day!" Erika nodded and pretended to be happy but she was secretly dreading it. The day before Winter Break Sarah invited Erika to come over for Christmas and Erika said yes. Erika thought that Sarah would wear socks for the occassion, maybe wearing those Christmas socks, so maybe she could keep her socks on. It was Christmas after all, who goes barefoot for Christmas? Eventually the day came and Erika was on her way there. Her mom was telling her that she couldn't stay for a sleep over and that she had to come back home that evening as she had to spend the rest of Christmas with her family. Erika was dropped off in front of Sarah's house and her mom drove off. Erika knocked on the door and Sarah opened. She was wearing a colorful red-green wool Christmas sweather, jeans, and her feet were of course completely bare. "Hey!" Sarah said, smiling and hugging Erika. Erika took off her snow-filled hat, jacket, and snowy boots, and stopped for a second waiting to see if Sarah was going to say anything and of course she did. "Hey how come you're wearing socks? You didn't walk here did you?" Sarah asked, her eyes a little wide. "No, my feet were just cold." Erika responded. "Oh, well now you can take them off" Sarah smiled. Erika nodded as she took her socks off and again her anxiety shot up as she touched the freezing cold hardwood floor. As she walked a bit her bare soles stepped on a bit of snow from where she stepped with her boots, and she jumped a bit. The rest of the day wasn't very eventful. Sarah gave her friend a Christmas sweater of her own, and Erika changed into it and she looked great in it, but again she couldn't stop thinking of her feet. Eventually Sarah's mother came in and said "Girls I'm gonna have to ask you to put your socks back on. It's way too cold to be barefoot." "Mom come on we are fine here" Sarah said." "Sarah we are not doing this, please do as I say" Sarah grumbled as she put some socks on and Erika was secretly pleased as she put on her nice, thick, warm wool socks. However, as soon as Sarah's mother left the room Sarah immediately took her socks off and said "Come on we can sit on our feet she won't see it" Erika slowly and sadly took her comfortable socks off and put her bare feet back on the freezing floor and sat on them. Sarah then took both pairs of socks and hid them so that her mother would think that they were wearing them. A few hours later Sarah's mother came back in and said "Okay girls, dinner is ready, I want you to come eat at the table please." "Okay mom, we will be there in five minutes" Sarah said. "Okay guess we have to put our socks back on. It's okay we can take them back off when we come back here" She said to Erika. Both girls put their socks back on and went to eat dinner. Erika was enjoying herself eating the good food but halfway through dinner Sarah turned to her mother and said "Mom could we please take our socks off? I just can't stand them I can't enjoy the food like this" "Sarah...fine. But please put them on the chair don't put them on the floor, I don't want you to catch a cold." Erika let out a sigh and started to take her socks off when Sarah's mother said "Honey you don't have to take your socks off if you don't want to." Erika quietly said "I want to" lying. Sarah's mood immediately improved, and Erika's worsened. Eventually, Erika's mother came to pick her up and Erika was horrified by the fact that she came inside to meet Sarah and Sarah's mother. Erika tried to hide her feet but eventually as it was time to go and she had to put her boots on, her mother saw her barefeet but she said nothing. When they got in the car however she turned to her and said "Erika how come you are barefoot? I've never seen you go barefoot like that before." "I spilled some juice on my socks. They are really sticky." Erika lied. Her mother said nothing else about it, but she was a little suspicious. Eventually Winter Break came to an end and school started back up, and of course, the carpets were installed. On the first day there Erika took her shoes off and stayed in socks for her first few classes, until it came time for Math class when she would meet Sarah. She took a little detour to her locker and took her socks off then went to class. She was late and her teacher made her wait outside. She was then left in and she was forced to walk barefoot across class and she felt everyone watching her feet. She felt horrible. School eventually came to an end and Erika was relieved to put her socks back on and went home. The next day once again she planned to stay in socks for her first few classes, until she ran into Sarah as she was going to her locker. Of course since Sarah was here she would have to go barefoot and stay like that for the rest of the day, and that's what happened. Erika couldn't concentrate on any of the classes. The entire time she just kept thinking of her feet. Then...the most horrible thing in Erika's life happened. Erika's mom chose to wait for Erika inside the school, as her car was in repair and it was snowing outside, and she saw Erika and Sarah both walking barefoot to their locker. Of course, Erika was once again barefoot in her boots as she was walking home with her mother, who said "Hey Erika it's okay if you go barefoot at home, I saw you at school you like it." Erika felt sick but managed a weak "Ok mom". When she got home, she took her boots off and stayed barefoot for the entire day. She hated every moment of it but she was too shy to say what was really going on. The next day her mom said "Hey Erika you can just go barefoot in your boots if you want, I am driving you it's okay it won't be cold." Eventually, after Erika had gone barefoot everywhere for so long, her mother decided that she didn't really need socks anymore, and threw them all out. Of course, when she told Erika this, she lied and said "That's great mom, thanks" but she was really very sad. She could never sleep as her feet were always freezing, she could never pay attention in class as she kept feeling like everyone was watching her feet, and now even if she were to tell the truth she didn't have any socks. And so Erika started going barefoot 24/7, not because she wanted to, but because of pressure from her new friend.
What a sad story. Barefooting should be about fun and lust for life, not about heteronomie. But i guess it's fictional anyway. No german school can affort a carpet floor.
Sounds a little fictitious to me, though I still enjoyed it. As with the character Erika, I had the same feelings toward my feet as I was massively shy about anyone seeing my feet and toes. Over time those unexpected unsettling experiences of having to get barefoot eventually turned the table and transformed into a deep love for barefooting. If this girl really exists, I hope she's enjoying her bare feet now.
Being barefoot is the greatest feeling in the world beside being naked but the barefoot lifestyle is so awesome and I love the feel of different textures underneath my bare feet
Thanks for sharing the story. I get the impression that this story was written as an assignment in a creative writing class. It was an enjoyable read that would be fun to discuss with a group of barefoot aficionados.
