I honestly think that lots of people would like to go barefoot, not the majority but a sizeable minority at least. Just look at how many are happy to go barefoot in places where it's seen as acceptable - the park, beach, on holiday etc. They can't wait to take their shoes off. Almost eveyone I know goes barefoot at home and not just in the summer. Even in the rain yesterday morning I saw many folks still wearing flip flops and sandals, which shows people like the feeling of their feet being bare. If only they could get over the initial worries about going barefoot, mainly what others may think or say and stepping on something sharp, they'd see how wonderful, liberating, safe and natural it is. It would be great if seeing people out and about barefoot was a common sight, no more unusual than seeing someone in flip flops.
You're right! We've been conditioned to think it's socially unacceptable to be barefoot in public. That's a shame. People make snarky comments when they see someone barefoot. Maybe if we told them to mind their own business.... People who don't go barefoot are missing out on a wonderful feeling and freedom!
They are missing out on freedom. There is a quote by someone famous that says something like the worst prisons are the ones we build for ourselves . The only time I have get nasty with people is when they tell me it is an insurance rule that I need to have shoes on. Insurance rule ? Well excuse me but they are private corporations with no governmental or police powers over me and I don't give a F about insurance rules. I try and watch TV and every commercial break those F insurance companies another $20,000 they spend for that same repetitive stupid ad, every 7 minutes, let them pay for a half dozen cut feet every year in that RARE very rare instance someone steps on a piece of glass in a retail place. Billions of dollars a year on those stupid repetitive ads on TV but a whole society should not be allowed to go barefoot cause they might get half a dozen claims over a cut foot every year. Biggest pile of bull sh^t on the planet !! I told one guy to call the insurance company and have them send someone down to confront me. Want a lawsuit? Lay one finger on me and that is assault. And how much does the insurance company pay you to be their illegal private police officer ??? I am not a hot head, I only get nasty if someone comes at me with an authoritative tone, then when I say the above I add the F word into it. Its been a long time since anyone has said anything to me. Years. I live in a beach town and every place I go they know me and comment if I am actually am wearing shoes !!
It seems to be a recurring feeling more so when I'm meeting new people or visiting new places. You never know really what to expect. Today was a good day to help with barefoot shyness! First thing I was outside in my front yard (clearing dog crap and sweeping) and two of my neighbours were there and suddenly sparked up conversation well that took up 15 minutes of my day and I proceeded back indoors. Next up was to walk the dogs of course I was barefoot and a girl about my age came up and started talking to me, sadly she wasn't barefoot but was wearing sandals and my bare feet were quite obvious as she knelt down to pat my two Jack Russell's. Next up my two sisters came over and persuaded me to go to the shopping centre with them they are both used to the sight of my bare feet now so that was fine and the cool air conditioned shopping centre was perfect and the cool tiles felt amazing. Well that's three occurrences for barefoot shyness today and I was perfectly alright.
