Well I'm glad to hear dirty feet aren'the such an issue! I have managed to come up with at least one more question. I have been barefoot a lot the past few days and it seems to worry/freak out the people I am with. My friends and family are not being very supportive and actually think it is embarassing for me not to wear sandals. My boyfriend of 4 years MADE me wear sandals to the grocery store yesterday. He said he wouldn't come unless I wore shoes, so I had to. There was no way to carry everything home alone. I thought everyone was used to me being a bit weird, but I guess they draw the line at shoelessness... The question is, how do you deal with this? Did the people in your life eventually get used to it?
The only business around here that allows people without shoes is a CVS drug store that has carpet. Also, the post office doesn't have a rule, but the night cleaning guy told me I should always wear shoes when I come in to check my PO box because he once saw a piece of broken glass on the floor, about ten years ago. Fuck that. My parents' generation tends to be much more accepting about this issue because they grew up in a time when shoes were a lot less used in summer. My grandparents could remember a time when they didn't know anybody who wore shoes between Memorial Day and Labor Day except to church on Sunday.
Well I made myself some crochet barefoot sandals and I'm hoping people in stores see them and think i'm wearing real sandals.
