Not the train. The rails themselves. Never tried them barefoot. Hope they are hot and stinging. OK, maybe not as MUCH as the (dreaded) Third Rail. But still.... Anybody ever "cop a feel"?
No third rail here, but yes I've walked rails barefoot. It's easier to keep your balance and easier on the feet than the sharp rocks surrounding. Hopping between the sleepers is good exercise. I hate the smell of the creosote they treat the ties with.
I spotted a barefooter...a real one....downtown Kingston yesterday....very rare in the downtown core....maybe 16?...saw him chase a lady with a stroller to return a dropped baby rattle the kid had tossed out and of course I thought of nuspieds...the only other true barefooter I kinda sorta know
Is there not anything left you can't find online ? I thought this search would be a miss , nope a whole bunch of images. That would be a fun walk a real long balance beam.
I'm quite a railfan, but I've never been barefoot on tracks, the ballast would hurt like a bitch to me. I do love the smell of creosote however, it's just me I guess.
The ballast stones are a bitch but once you get on that smooth rail the feeling is great not to mention the layer of black you get from the ties. There were tracks by my old house and I would walk the rails between crossings as a short cut to get to town.
Just be careful when walking along railroad tracks as anytime is train time. At 17 I had quite a surprise when I turned and looked as a freight train was barreling down towards me coming around a curve! I had just enough time to get off the tracks and jump into the weeds. I swear I didn't hear it at first , but the engineer blew the horn thankfully. If I had be about five seconds slower, I might not be here typing this.
I remember my mom warning me not to go over a bridge while a train was going underneath the bridge. She said I woul get cinders in my eyes from the coal burning engine. I remember walking over the rails barefooted at the train terminal. They felt real smoothe. The terminal was a loud, smelly dirty place. It was exciting.
Sounds interesting, but I can't do it here. It's illegal here and carries a hefty fine if you're caught. It IS dangerous, and the cops don't exactly like cleaning up your remains, if you do get hit by a train.
