Was in London about a week ago. No problems and less odd looks than here were I live (Germany).

You surprise me. I thought Germany was the barefoot-friendly capital of Europe? Having said that, I too have been round London several times with no probs.

...it's because in London people are generally afraid to make eye contact, just to be sure you don't attack them for being curious! :D

Yes, Germany is also very barefoot-friendly. Much more than US (as far as I know from reading).

Okay, maybe. :) I think I get the most odd looks not for being barefoot but cause of my ragged clothes anyway. :D

Thought it was. I've been to Germany several times with no probs. Yes one does get the impression that our friends in the States have a harder time of it. Makes me glad I don't live there. I'd love to go there to find out first hand whether it's true though. Re clothes I once got stopped in the street by an elderly couple who wanted to take my photo as they thought I looked "laid back" :)

Never happened to me. Only odd looks or people talking about me. ;)

I enjoyed very much my staying in London few days.
I went around barefoot everywhere in spite of cold and rain.
No problems at all in shops, cafeterias and restaurants.
I think 99% of people did not notice my bare feet or did not show having noticed.
