Anybody have good experiences going out to eat barefoot? My wife and I went to Fort Lauderdale area a few years ago and saw a sandwich stop near the beach called Gilligan's. They had a "no shirt, no shoes, no problem! sign on the door. Since both of us were barefoot (and I did not have a shirt with me) we decided to take advantage of their policy. It was obvious that I had no shirt on when we ordered at the counter, and our table was positioned so the staff could easily see that my wife was barefoot (I was not in direct view). No comments at all, just a relaxing lunch. Unfortunately they had gone out of business our next trip down, but we were able to dine barefoot elsewhere.
I’ve only dined barefoot in a sit down restaurant once, and that was in Aruba. Have never been shoeless in a restaurant, other than fast food places plenty of times, in my home country of The United States.
There's a really good hamburger bar and grill in my home town, where I go to eat frequently. Over the past years I've gotten into the habit of doing this barefooted during the hotter summer months. The wooden porch planks feel good underfoot, and it's really pleasant to eat my burger outside, while letting the warm summer breeze wash over me. Wish it could be like this year round.
That it is. Just bugs me that it's only available to me maybe 3 month per year, before temperatures turn hostile again.
Sadly, I'm another one who has had just two (non-beachfront) barefoot dining experience in his life. One was while driving home to the Northeast from the Midwest a few summers ago, a lunch in Bellefonte, PA. A pub-style lunch place that had an outdoor terrace. I said "what the hell" to myself and entered barefoot. The waitress said "seat yourself" and I did. Ordered a reuben and a soda. The waitress didn't care at all. No comments, no looks. The same for a party at the next table. I relaxed, and as you can see, that delightful lunch remains a nice memory. I still remember the warm feel of the wooden deck where I ate. The other was at the Fruitlands museum in Massachusetts, which I think I already wrote about here. Visited the various mini-museums and houses in bare feet, and then went for lunch in their outdoor restaurant. No problem at all, except at the very end I was told to watch out for broken glass in somewhat awkward tones by the waitress (who began "We don't have any policy about bare feet, but..."). I have never ventured to enter an indoor restaurant barefoot. Maybe I'm too cautious, but from all I've read, I feel like it's not likely to end well. And I've never ever seen a barefoot diner in any indoor restaurant I've visited.
I have been to a restaurant one time and dine in and I was barefoot not problems at the time . My family was expecting some problems and I did bring a pair of stick on flip/flops. But as we finished our dinner and we were living I went to pay the check and the cashier said that I need to wear shoes next time so I ask to see the owner . And the owner was right there behind the cashier he was on the phone after he was done he and I talked and I have seen him before at Walmart shopping and he was barefoot . And he recognized me as one at Walmart shopping barefoot too and as we talk he said you don’t need to wear shoes in my restaurant he said he welcomes barefoot people and this summer he will have outside dining I said thank you and that the food was great Which it was . But that’s the only dine in restaurant I know that I can go in barefoot .
I’ve done it a few times and in almost all places there were no issues at all, from restaurants in shopping centres, coffee shops, pubs, hotels. The only bad experience was in a hotel - dining there had been great the evening before, had a rapport with the receptionist who had no issue with my lack of shoes, but the morning manager clearly didn’t like it and in that English way of indirect confrontation told off his waitress for her footwear (not covering enough of her feet) while looking at me in a raised voice so I could hear. I was made to feel awkward but not asked to leave so it could’ve been worse, overall I’d recommend it!
Crabby Joes in Daytona Beach Shores, FL is 100% barefoot friendly. I’m a local and I stop by for lunch to enjoy a hassle-free barefoot dining experience. Was there in mid-afternoon a couple days back and there were five other barefoot diners besides myself. BTW: Don’t confuse Crabby Joes with Joe’s Crab Shack located on the main pier in Daytona Beach. Crabby Joes is on Sunglow Pier in Daytona Beach Shores.
I've dined barefoot in two different restaurants this week. One close to home, and one out in a further area of town. I walked in with barefoot sandals on and got seated, then promptly removed the sandals and relaxed and enjoyed my meals barefoot. The first restaurant had carpeted flooring. It was rather small and quaint, all older folks in there. I walked right out barefoot when I left. The other place had nice, smooth cool floors that were very refreshing on the feet.
I usually dine out with friends and it is ages since the last time i entered a restaurant with footwear.
I have gone barefoot in restaurants with shod people. I wonder if the reaction of the restaurant would be any different if all four of us were barefoot.
I don't remember the name of the place, but it was somewhere along Santa Monica Blvd in West Hollywood where my friend Brian and I ate lunch barefoot and shirtless sitting at their outdoor seating.
