I've always gone barefoot before but sometimes felt ashamed and insecure about it.
Now though I've finally realized that it really is more healthy and I now know how I can deal
with people who "Look down on me" for going with out shoes on.
If asked, I would just tell them that for me going barefoot falls in line with my desire to live a healthier lifestyle. That it falls in line with my interest in herbology and natural foods.
I feel I'm getting more confident about it and hopefully care much less what others think.
    I can't wait for summer.

How does the possibility of stepping on nails, glass, used needles, dog shit, tooth picks, etc.. constitute as a healthy lifestyle?

I dont alway wear shoes myself, who cares what people think. If someone ask you jsut tell them you dont like wearing shoes and get on with your day. I really don't understand why people make such a big deal about this.

If that's your take on it then I don't have to answer. Very negative.

He's not killing the thread, he's just pointing out an error in judgement. Healthier lifestyle isn't exactly the words I would use. Maybe you're looking for a word more akin to "organic" or something like that, in which case I completely agree. And it teaches you caution and patience, which is another plus.

By healthier, I mean healthier in the mind. The freedom and sensual feeling of going barefoot.
I just thought his initial response conveyed a very negative view of going barefoot. Stepping on
glass and nails are the last things I think about, and if I did I would probably never go shoeless.

:D Forgive me, it sounded like you were talking about physical health. A positive view doesn't mean it won't happen, of course... observance ensures that. But I suppose that's common sense, haha. Good luck!

Well, I think mental health effects physical health too. In the long run I think both have to be right to feel balanced.

These are the replies that are so good to hear. Going barefoot and eating garlic I say.

Oh yes, yes indeed. Mental health is actually directly linked to physical, and it's far more powerful than most people think - which I understand now is a concept you've grasped. Hell, it's why placebos work in the first place. The human body is a remarkable and complex thing, and so is the human mind. Put the two of them together... well, you get where I'm going

  15. There are always fucking morons who add their wholly negative assertions to these threads. Exposing one's body to the environment is always risky, but one attempts to maneuver to make the best of a risky situation. Otherwise, we're all of us doomed to hide under the bed.

Or where people become morons because they don't act responsibly with that freedom. Everyone has a right to it, but not many know what to do with it because they've grown lazy and accustomed to it

No matter what activity we partake in there's always risks. Hey, you can go for a leisurely walk across the street and get stuck by a bus, who knows? When it comes to barefooting, you can't always control what you step on, but I think the risks are overly exaggerated. The thought of just being without shoes just automatically forms an instant feeling of danger, something that was drilled into our minds by our parents. Yea, our feet get dirty, but that's what soap and water are for, right?. I've sustained only one cut and nothing but some antibiotic ointment and a bandage was all I needed.

I'd refer to barefoot as a spiritual connectedness to the earth, kind of a grounding effect. Always relaxes me, less stress, so in turn one might feel healthier.

    Ignore the rolling stoned dweeb.
He doesn't know what the big deal is, but makes sure to take time to post the same drivel every chance he/she/it gets.
Another dolt, QDildo-something, will probably be along shortly to regurgitate some mindless psycho-babble he picked up in Psych 001.

    Good for you OP!
    Have fun out there.
