Any good experience going barefoot and minimal clothing in hotels? Hotels are a great place to experiment as you are likely out of town and don't know anyone. My best experience is when my wife and I were in Playa Del Carmen. As soon as we checked into the hotel we changed into our vacation wardrobes. Shorts and a crop top for my wife. Just shorts (no shirt) for me. Both of us barefoot. We went to the local mini-mart to get some suntan lotion, then stopped at a frozen yogurt spot. No issues either place with our lack of clothing. When we got back to our room there was a message from the front desk. Evidently there was an activity coordinator at the hotel who wanted to meet with us. As we were heading out I mentioned to my wife that it was so nice out that I wish I did not have to put on a shirt. She replied "then don't" and smiled. I took her cue and we left as we shopped, both barefoot and me shirtless. We sat through the meeting with my wife's arm around my shoulders and her feet pressed against my leg. We were there about 30 minutes and commented how several of the activities looked fun. The agent never mentioned our barefeet nor my being shirtless. After the meeting we went back to our room to "celebrate" our attire. After cleaning up the sun had gone down so I put on a shirt to walk to dinner. We both stayed barefoot, clearly visible as we were in shorts. We were seated and served without any issues. We never put on shoes the whole week, and I never had to wear a shirt other than to stay warm at night. A great experience that we still enjoy reliving.
No specific issues, although I feel like hotels generally are more lax since folks are a bit more transient. I’ve seen more people walking around barefoot at hotels than any place short of the pool or a beach.
In the past I've often walked around barefoot in hotels I've stayed in. I like to walk around the place to check out what amenities they have. Never had a problem. Even asked a housekeeper for extra towels once and she was very pleasent.
A few years ago, before Covid-19, my wife and I had 8-9 days staying in Mauritius. We had booked a very nice beachside resort and after checking in went down to the bar for some refreshments. To my surprise probably 50-60% of the people there were barefoot! I made an excuse to my wife that I had to go back to our room as I had forgotten something. Off with the sandals and back to the bar barefoot! She said that she thought thats what I went back for! We had a great evening. Drinking, eating and dancing and for me barefoot! I went barefoot the rest of the stay I didn't wear shoes in the hotel once. Even when going to the "managers cocktails" one evening. Breakfast in the restaurant was no problem and again probably 20-30% of people were barefoot as well. One of the best and most relaxing holidays I have ever had. Would love to go back again.
