Led Zeppelin......stolen from John Entwhistle and Kieth moon (or alledgedly given to them by Moon).....Entwhistle was planning to use the name for a band he was forming with Moon, the band never happened, obviously. They actually weren't going to use that name they were going to use a really long one i don't remember, but everybody started calling them that so they kept it. I'm pretty sure thats how it went, read it awhile ago though. Also the Grateful Dead came from a fable where a poor traveler spent his last money for the proper barial(sp?) of a pauper. Later the pauper came back in spirit form to thank him and he was called the grateful dead.

The White Stripes I guess Meg had an obsession with peppermints, so the original name was supposed to be "The Peppermints" but I guess they decided to take the last name of "White" and add the peppermint-themed "Stripes"
