---- Well I am all for this! To be honest I have never smoked as it really is a filthy habit, and I reckon I wouldn't be alive now if I had. Particularly in respect of a particular heart condition I have. I was so pleased when smoking was banned in pubs and restaurants and the rest and it is very obvious that this measure has no doubt saved many thousands from dying from horrible lung cancer. Not to say of other serious illnesses smoking can cause. I do get hissed off though having to pass through a pub doorway with a crowd of smokers outside the door puffing away. Also of course people puffing away at the tables and areas outside oblivious to people eating food, and the prevalence of young children about. Selfish ruggers they can be. That is for sure! Ban fags I say in all areas were the pub has it's land and whatever set up it may have. End of! The i reports a cross-party group of peers are set to table an amendment to emergency legislation aimed at boosting the hospitality industry which will temporarily relax licensing laws to encourage al fresco eating and drinking. That amendment will seek to ensure pavement licences are only granted subject to the condition that smoking is banned. Liberal Democrat Baroness Northover told the newspaper she held concerns over the potential for the move to encourage public smoking. “Reducing smoking in public places has been hugely important for improving public health in the UK. However, with pavement licences being introduced to help support our hospitality industry, the Government should not allow this to become an excuse for increasing smoking in public places,” she said. “More and more people are spending time with friends, family and loved ones outside. We must ensure that these new pavement areas can be enjoyed by all.”
Blinkin' eck guys. I posted this hours ago and no replies. What's going on? Isn't ANYONE interested in this importand news item? Or is it just because this forum is mainly American and Canadian based? I am gutted. Do you hear me? GUTTED!
I hate cigarettes, but I hate nanny state stuff more Ive had my fill of nanny state garbage in 2020 thankyou very much
I must admit to hating the Nanny State Vanilla, but these are very dangerous times we live in. The thing is. This state is getting almost every bastard decision wrong. Hopeless heap of shite they are. That reminds me of this poster!
As a none smoker I hate it when I have to breath in someone else's smoke. If they could set up areas where the two can exist that would be great. But often space just does not allow it to happen. Over the years I have avoided locations that I knew allowed smoking. New York state and other states in the U S have passed laws banning smoking in a lot of common indoor areas. And in that said that smokers can smoke but they need to be at least 25 feet from the door ways into and out of the buildings. I just feel that if you want to smoke, fine. But please do not force it on others to breath it
I'm not a smoker - however, my mother (of 86 years) is. Back in her day, it was sophisticated to have a ciggy (especially with a holder) - it is for her a stress reliever and it's long-term addiction provides comfort and solace in her solitude (moreover in these times of lockdown) -Banning her from a social imterractive location i.e. Pub/Restrurant seems so Harsh
Given that Smoking is a relaxant and Alcohol can often be a stimulant of stupidy, and/or see a state of barmy bravado , one has to ask - which is the worse case scenario?
I am a smoker of different things too. I often get followed by non smokers who want to chat with me. That happens a lot.
A Ban on "Outside" Pub (lic) houses would only see more alcohol purchased for home drinking and - after a few pints/bottles -copled with a cold climate see smoking within an enclosed home environment - that may have the possibility of children included - retained therin
And * Food for thought * Ban Tobacco - and the Tax on it will be lostl' It will then go on something else - more of an neccessity - like Food, Heating or Travel - No guessing how I cast my vote
i'm not familiar with outdoor pubs. the only place second hand smoke doesn't bother me is waaaay outdoors where no one is within 20 or even a hundred feet of me and the wind is blowing the other way. since i'm not a fan of drinking establishments and can't recall the last time i frequented one, its not my skin, and those who smoke in them probably deserve each other, though people who have to work there probably don't.
