Yep. The US is huge, and has many many many millions of guns, many/most have no paper trail, lots are very old..... homebuilt..... And if you tried to get rid of them and actually take up guns already in circulation you'd have thousands of violent uprisings, it would be civil war. The government knows this. And the situation is not changing. You can ban things in cities or whatever, but a countrywide ban involving taking up guns, would end or cause the reformation (probably in a bad way) of the US. Hasen't ireland spent a century in civil war, though they try to hide it, with a huge army with illegal weapons from automatic weapons to rocket launchers? Yes, yes they have...... I say this as a non-gun owner with no plans to own a gun. That's not to say I won't some day, I've had some great fun with guns, and just on principle I think it's a right that should be exercised by many to avoid it's trampling.
You sure about that? "The Oklahoma blast claimed 168 lives, including 19 children under the age of 6, and injured more than 680 people. The blast destroyed or damaged 324 buildings within a sixteen-block radius, destroyed or burned 86 cars, and shattered glass in 258 nearby buildings. The bomb was estimated to have caused at least $652 million worth of damage" "In five coordinated attacks, the perpetrators released sarin on several lines of the Tokyo Metro, killing thirteen people, severely injuring fifty and causing temporary vision problems for nearly a thousand others." (keep in mind the Tokyo attack was with about 900 milliliters of sarin, certainly not "very heavy equipment" Imagine if they had used an aerosol spray, many thousands would have died..) I think I would rather deal with guns instead of bombs or poisons.
Where in fuck do you come up with this shit roor? talking out your ass again. Oh, and Ireland ISN'T Scotland.
I didn't mean that it is, I just mean a place with lots of violence with weapons that are illegal. As for paper trails, I know a lot of people with guns, and maybe of all those dozens of guns, a number that I could count on one hand's fingers are recorder to belong to them. Hell, I don't even know what the law is about paperwork and registration for guns, because everyone has them, and they're all bought from friends for cash, traded for stuff, whatever. And I'm not talking about some dangerous criminal element, I'm talking about cowboys and rednecks. So, maybe the whole US is different and it's just here, but in this area it would be about impossible to trace a gun in just about any shooting, with out cooperation from a lot of people along the way. I mean, I don't have a source that says "nobody knows where US guns are", but I'll tell you, knowbody knows where US guns are, and their owners would NOT give them up. In the US you can't go down a list knocking to take up guns, even if you WOULDN'T get your brains blown out with the very gun you came to confiscate, you would never find a lot of them. As I see it, the only real exception to that is with the (generally very valuable) grandfathered automatic weapons with the papers for civillian ownership. People are very serious about keeping those papers up to date, or the gun loses it's value and fun, which is that you can openly and legally own an automatic weapon.
The only firearms that don't require a federal background check are shotguns and hunting rifles, or at least that was how it was when I was an avid gun person. Handguns and assault type rifles require a federal background check and a 15 day waiting period. Part of the paperwork also registers the gun to you. If it changes hands privately then the paperwork has to be submitted to transfer registration of the weapon. Any idiot that sells a weapon without filing the proper paperwork is a fool. Those are the laws in Ca. Now if you want to talk about illegal transactions and stuff, well ok, but I very much doubt those weapons comprise the majority of guns in the U.S. Keep in mind that just because you see cowboys and rednecks selling or trading guns doesn't mean that the paperwork isn't being processed, and if we are talking shotguns and non-assault type rifles, it's all legal. You don't have to have a storefront to legally sell firearms. I bought a .357 from a guy out of the back of his car. He had all the permits and shit and made me fill out the paperwork and wait the 15 days for the background check. He just didn't have a store.
I admit I don't know much about poisons and bombs...but I still had the idea that it would take quite a bit of effort to go that route, whereas getting a gun and shooting people is really quite easy. Of course with or without guns people who want to bomb or poison people are going to do that anyway...you certainly couldn't ban everything that can produce poison or bombs, but guns are a lot more straight-forward. It would still be impossible in the U.S. but in some places, maybe not...also, I don't believe in the government banning guns or many other things at all, to be honest...but I can certainly fantasize about a world pre-gun-era or post-gun-era.
last flash i saw on the local news was mit and obama talking about how new gun control is needed. i agree, if just one of those people in the theater had a gun then maybe 6 people that died would have lived. and while we are discussing...what the fuck was a 3 month old doing in a movie theater? get a fucking baby sitter ya fucking idiot. sorry to any of you reading this that bring your infants to theaters but on behalf of all the adults...please dont do that.
I agree a movie theater is not a place for a baby...at all, baby is not going to enjoy the movie, the parent is not going to enjoy trying to control the baby and everyone else is not going to enjoy not hearing the movie...anyway.
just as many people will try and use incidences like this to legalize carrying guns as will try and use it to ban guns. coming from a place with comparatively little gun crime compared to our neighbours to the south, i have a hard time getting behind allowing people to carry handguns around. long guns for hunting are a different story, but i don't really see an advantage to allowing people to carry around something which is only meant to harm other people.
Banning guns wouldn't stop violence, and events like this are honestly pretty rare. Theres no reason for things like this, some people are just fucked, and because theres no reason theres no simple solution. Batman could have stopped all this though. Also fictitious.
Awesome, so you prefer to get hacked with a sword or bludgeoned with a club and then die a slow agonizing death 10 days later from infection?
Okay got one for ya.... George Clooney agrees to sleep with you, but insists he dresses up like Batman and you dress up like Mr. Freeze.... what do you do?
Maybe tx doesn't require the stuff for private sales or trades? For instance, I know that some places (maybe many) people of a certain age can legally own guns that they can not legally buy, but they may be gifted by certain relatives or guardians or whatevers. I thought ca was in-between. These being rednecks, we're talking pistols, rifles, shotguns, but generally actually no assault type weapons. But yeah, I know you need to tie it to your name to own it new, but that there's lots of used gun trading that goes on around here. Not to say among criminals, I think we have a pretty sparkling crime rate actually, and pretty much no gun crime (although the DA campaigning for his seat right now would tell you otherwise.... He's going to keep those murderers out of our town..... even though the last was probably before the advent of the internal combustion engine :2thumbsup: ). For example, remember the va tech shooting, the guy bought it on the spot at a gun show. I think a lot of places it's only a storefront dealer that must do ANY paperwork, other than for a federally banned, grandfathered weapon. Anyway this guy was a lame fuckin' wannabe "joker". The joker would have suffocated the entire theatre with nitrous oxide.
why can people understand that banning guns is only going to move more to the black market.Because no one that wants illegal drugs ever get any.
