Not to get the thread back on topic, but AFAIK, dreadlocks help prevent hairloss. That is, if the owner is just leaving them alone. Hair that has been dreadlocked has the 'support' of all of the neighboring hairs. Dreaded hair is not subject to combing, frequent washing, and other undreaded haircare grooming practices.

Dreads are not subject to many of these physical stresses. But if you play with your dreads, you increase the amount of physical stress, and potential for hairloss. Negative physical activity includes twilrling, palm-rolling, root-flipping, ripping, and all the other crap that people do to get/groom/placate their dreads.

With the exception of added physical stresses, dreadlocks themselves will NOT cause hair loss; and, may even prevent it because of the nature of their structure.

I just started ripping as they were getting way uncomfortable. I'm finding now that all my lil baby hairs are getting caught up in the dread and it's sore! I tried pulling them out gently but they are pretty dreaded in. so I'll just leave em :) thanx for your words man

Yeah, i would say try not to stress. My diagnosis is that this is probably something related to your recent childbirth. It will most likely correct itself, so I wanted to give you some words that might reduce your mental worries (which is also sometimes associated with hair loss hair color change).

Just breathe, and let things take their course. I think you'll be fine. :)

Luxie, i was wondering what you have done to get your dreads so tight so soon. i still have so many stray hairs at 2 months. did you just backcomb the crap out of them? or do you think it had to do with the extensions? i backcombed mine pretty loosely and mainly have just used beads to help them form. i wash them every 2-3 days. what do you do?

I didn't backcomb. My friend did em and what she did was take a section of hair and split it in two working upwards, reforming the hair and then splitting it again randomly. I don't know if it's making sense lol. It kind of knotted the hair together. So I'm not sure how they've formed so quick. I didn't wash them for a few weeks at first cuz thats what everyone was telling me to do but now I wash them about 2/3 times a week. I love washnig them! She sewed an extension into each one and I think it helped keep them apart. But they were so heavy and uncomfortable I had to take em out and soo glad to be without! I think they are growing quite quick too. I wonder what they are gonna look like in couple years...
