Hey Cowboy, what's it like on the rails these days? I've been away from it for a few years and I've heard reports that it's gotten tougher since 911.

any truth to that?

 

I know some of the yards here in california (Roseville, San Luis Obispo) have gotten tighter about security than they were in the 90s.


Also noticed you hardly ever see any open boxcars anymore. Not that many grain cars either.

Used to be you could ride the Sourthen Pacific line anywhere you wanted to go up and down the coast and nobody cared. SP got bought up by Union Pacific a few years ago and there's a different attitude now.

Too bad too. the coast route was a great ride.
