We'll see who's directing the action. It seems the sailors are going to be released. So for now perhaps the threat of war is on the back burner. I hope so. And personally I am glad they weren't US sailors or the bombs would already be falling.
You put emphasis on my statement that I never intended. Perhaps it makes you feel more like a man to think the US would have resorted to violence before the Brits. If so then the US should be considered as adolescent as you appear to be.
It possibly is academic now but :http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/6502805.stm guy was infering that it was the US falsifying data - that also is academic now. Well events have taken a differing course as we all are aware - we shall have to see if by Tuesday Mr Browne is no more. Is there a thread about how people feel about the sailors selling their story ?.
That is what i thought - the only female sold her story [along with ONE other person] and she came across as a bit of a tool. Holding the headscarf she was 'forced' to wear like somebody had been cleaning a toilet with it. http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2007160267,00.html . You may have seen a little of the furore over this http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/6557719.stm Absolutely ridiculous imho. Mr Browne would have been damned if he did and damned if he did not. I just hope he keeps his job.
If this doesn't do it, i dont know what will. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18812865/ all it takes is 1 US soldier off-course and or captured.
Marketing is marketing the fact that someone who was held captive has a right to benefit from the ordeal doesn't diminish her story in my mind. Perhaps we should all place ourselves in the situation before we criticise. How many of the men that put these young people in harms way have ever cleaned a toilet, or swept a floor? But they have certainly benefitted. McCain wrote and signed a letter during his captivity that was even more damning.
What do you mean by that ? I'm not suggesting it does - I'm just saying what she said and the way she acted was not very dignified. The way her story was portrayed was not very dignified. Yes she went through a ordeal - but to hold up a religous garment like it was covered in shit was wrong. There was no need for her to do that. Even if she was a willing visitor in the country - she would be expected to wear it. Maybe her captors should be shown no respect - but a persons religeon and accompanying clothing should. If I was in her position and went through her ordeal i'd show a little bit of respect for the clothing I would have had to wear regardless of the predicament I was in. All it was was a hijab - not a barbed wired halo. That is why I called her a bit of a tool - she was.
I don't think I'd hold any remnant of a captor as sacred no matter what the religious significance. A tool.... what is a tool, but something that can be used by another. She chose not to be. The fact that she benefits...more power to her. I'd love to see more of the working people benefit. Those that risk their lives. Not the corporations and politicians that keep their hands clean and reap the huge profits from creating wars and sacrificing young lives.
