Attack on Boston Marathon

Holy shit!!! Stay away from the windows!!!

It all started with a 7-11 robbery, according to NBC. The dead suspect wasn't actually shot, but run over by a police car, and found to be wearing a suicide bomb that didn't go off. At one point, the second suspect was pinned down, but used explosives to fight his way out. Obviously, these guys have a lot of military skills.

The two brothers have lived in Cambridge for at least a year, and maybe Turkey before that, but are originally from Chechnya. That's puzzling, because Chechnyan terrorists have been fighting Russia for a long time, but have never shown any interest in the US. Maybe somebody else hired them. For cash, they would probably work for anybody except Russia.

 

Once suspects are tipped off that authorities are on to them, anything can happen. The element of surprise and control that law enforcement might have had to apprehend them is lost.

 

Now, all of Boston is being told to stay indoors.

 

Yes, and these two guys were looking to go out in a blaze of glory, not running for their lives. They had another pressure cooker bomb with them last night, apparently wanting to set it off later today and kill a lot more people.

I wonder why the carjacking victim was let go after thirty minutes. He's going to have an interesting story to tell!

The Watertown lockdown has now been extended to all of Boston and Cambridge.

 

Sounds like authorities knew little or nothing about these two bombers. If they had, they likely wouldn't have went public with their pics so quickly.

 

They were hoping that neighbors would recognize them, but as of last night, none had spoken up. It was just a matter of time.

For Sunfighter, I think the most encouraging piece of recent news is that the authorities are so concerned about this last surviving brother wanting to stage a final large-scale attack, since he has nothing left to lose. As a cop killer, he knows he will never be taken alive. Shooting one guy in a house is going to reveal his location without accomplishing anything impressive, so he should be looking for a larger group to make his final attack. That's why they don't want businesses to open in Boston.

 

One has to wonder if there are any other collaborators associated with these two guys. So little seems to be known about the two guys to begin with.

 

I wonder. It could be a big plot, or it could have been just a couple of lonely, angry psychos. I'm curious as to the motive as well.

They just arrested an accomplice on Norfolk Street in Cambridge.

 

Yes, the cash wash in Cambridge. Near Broadway & Hampshire.

They might have him surrounded in Watertown now.

 

Ah, that might be the location of the bombs in the street that we've been hearing about.

Maybe this will all be over within an hour. [*fingers crossed*]

Just 12 hours ago, I had never heard of Watertown, Massachusetts, or given any thought to what might be out beyond Harvard in that direction. Now it's the center of the country's attention, and a good portion of the world. What a difference a day can make!

On I-93 New Hampshire State Troopers just pulled over a taxi cab coming from massachusetts

So is this it or are they just being cautious because there have been so many similar reports this morning.

And the FAA has ordered a "no fly" zone over Watertown. They don't want any TV helicopter footage if this guy surrenders and they shoot him in the face.

Also, a second suspected accomplice is in custody. This is moving very fast.
