I thought I was being EXTREMELY generous ending in the nano percentile. But 99.99, You actually believe the odds are better than 1 in 10000 that your mind or imagination is connected to another dimension, Or that nut jobs actually communicate with spirits and gods, or EVERYTHING I dream is possible?

Interesting, well, I've got to go have my morning shit now. Well, I can't actually say it's a shit because I don't know for 'sure' what it is. I guess it's JUST AS LIKELY that I was anally inseminated by an alien in my sleep last night!

I'll name him Feces Christ! Hey, it came from my IMAGINATION so according to this thread it has better odds of being reality than winning the lottery!!

    did I say that?

    no.

I said you cannot calculate the probability.

so to say it is any probability is just you putting faith in some general intuition of yours

Sigh, I'll go over this again. My beliefs are based on most likely probabilities. Faith is required only to hang on to beliefs in LEAST likely probabilities. If you can bring forth enough evidence that suggests that God and spirits are the more likely answer I'll be happy to change my beliefs. The fact is that every day that goes by and I only see evidence that God can not possibly exist and all supporting arguments are flawed then the minuscule likelihood of God continues to shrink and it is already shrunk far beyond the point of obscurity. The scales of logic regarding the question of God are tipped so far in favor of non existence that the arms are practically vertical.

Go figure, it turns out it was just a shit after all!
    But there's always tomorrow!

Faith is required to hold onto any belief system, and that includes any form of rational materialism.

bro, how can you base your belief in probabilities when you cannot calculate the possibility of the world having a god or not?

maybe you can calculate the possibility of a christian god, or a muslim god, or any other sort of humanistic god, by comparing the state of the world with the declared characteristics of some religion's god.

but how can you 'observe' that there is no god? it makes no sense. you cant use 'non' observation as anything unless you actually expect an observation. there is no reason for us to expect to observe an all powerful creator, if it was real.

It's been 11 days and I haven't shit out a baby alien yet. It ALMOST seems like I could start calculating the probability of an alien coming out my ass tomorrow. If I was a betting man I'd go so far as to say there's pretty good odds that I'll see no alien tomorrow either! It sure seems like everyday that goes by with no SIGN of ALIENS that it really was just my imagination. Not only that but upon investigation it would seem that not one person on this planet of 3 Billion has any solid evidence of being inseminated or any contact whatsoever by an alien.

And yet the possibility of aliens actually existing is FAR FAR FAR more likely than the all mighty God eternal consciousness!

    Hmmmmmm, I wonder....
    I really really wonder.....

Welcome to the human condition. It's impossible to say that anything is impossible, even the alien coming out your ass. As a betting man, I'd bet against it, mainly because: (1) I've never seen or heard of it happening before;(2) it doesn't conform to any models of reality I've ever heard of; and (3) if I could believe that, I'd see no reason not to believe in anything else, including Dawkins' Flying Spaghetti Monster. But I see no basis for assigning a numerical probability to it, and I'd have to admit that I could be wrong. It's my policy decision to proceed on the basis of rationality, even though I'd have to admit I could be wrong. You seem to resist the conclusion that your materialist view of reality could be wrong, but it could be.

I agree, I should have never attempted to ROUND UP an infinitely minuscule, beyond all reasonable probability. It is foolish to reason with the unreasonable, but yet I keep making these foolish posts.

Just for kicks I was going to tell my wife that I think there might be a slight possibility that that I've been inseminated by an alien because I imagined it and ANYTHING I imaging COULD possibly exist. I lost my nerve, I just couldn't say it because knowing my wife, she'd definitely think I need mental help. She's not as easy going as I am. Anyone that actually believed this would need mental help.

There are millions of people on this planet who sacrifice their life in one way or another because of their dedication to some unreasonable imaginary beliefs. There are millions more that suffer injustice at the hands of zombies who are convinced that some imaginary creature has a master plan for serving justice.

It is pointless, even counter productive, to BELIEVE in all the absurdly beyond reasonable possibilities that we can imagine. Just because I can IMAGINE instantaneous, beyond light speed travel doesn't mean it will ever be a possibility and what purpose would such a belief serve me right now? By the time we suck this planet dry we'll be able to zap ourselves to a new planet!?

if an alien was in your arse you could look and see.

if an all powerful being created the earth and left it, you would never ever be able to tell

not that I believe this is the case. I hold in faith that it is not.

If the earth WAS created by an all powerful being there would be no reason NOT to to know. What excuse can you IMAGINE, other than God being a sadistic asshole!?! Men are sadistic assholes, a God would not do such bullshit.

I thought you were a man of logic? What you are using there is speculation based on your human condition, trying to abstract it to a concept which involves being infinitely transcendental of any human limitations. (trying to use YOUR common sense to understand a being which is theoretically beyond the realms of any common sense)

According to your 'look around us' approach, if god was real in most senses, it appears that god has forgotten about the world and left it to rot. Just because God might have created the universe, does not mean God likes the universe or cares at all what sort of evidence the people who live in it have of his existance.

An omnipotent being would have no use for anyone's praise anyway. There is no reason to think that the creator (if true) cares a single bit about us humans. We could just be another part in a greater scheme. Who the fuck knows?

I dont think this is the case!!! But Im just one person on this planet trying to make sense of things, and I have no tools at my disposal (neither do any other humans) for detecting certain aspects of the universe, and thus I resort to faith, and I judggle my faith perhaps, test out alternative faiths, apply logic to all belief systems, and in the end I form my view. But it will never be privelaged to knowing the actual state affairs in the cosmos on the scale far beyond the scope of human perception, apprehension, or comprehension
