Well, since you did find evidence that privative a can be used to mean "not," I guess I do have to concede that both of us have could have been correct. My opinion is still that its usage is not quite right (as the source you used only knew 3 years of Greek; I know 3 years of German, and German is FAR more similar to English, and I know I wouldn't be able to make such a distinction with a German word). That's kind of a bold thing to say, isn't it Libertine? When the evidence is with me, I won't admit any "wrongness," but at least now you have somewhat stable contradictory evidence. Your statement here kind of urks me; I didn't know you thought so low of me. .... very well then. I'm not changing my stance on atheism because of your source on the privative a (especially because my sources explicitly say that it does NOT mean "not" or "away" or "without"). However, I understand now how you can take the privative a to mean those things (even though I don't think the source is reliable enough to make that judgment), so we can at least agree to disagree now. And a note about your source: The author uses Ramsey's definition of "negative away" and then with his 3 years of Greek, says that it's to be taken as "negative not." I find that a bit fishy. But that's okay.
Good. I concede as well that you had a correct definition according to my own sources, thus we were both right or one of us has been deceived by our sources. I don't think so low of you. You just remind me a lot of me. But, now as I see you have, though reluctantly, agreed to at least admit we were both correct, I take the comment back and apologize to you for it. Agreed. I don't know how many years Ramsey had of Greek. I said I had three years. But, I wanted to use other sources in order to give you more credence as to what my view was other than me just saying so. I hope you could consider that an admirable trait.
That was YOU who said you had 3 years? Okay, my mistake, I thought that was Ramsey saying he had 3 years of Greek. Nevermind what I said, then. So anyway ... *shakes your hand* Let's go raise some hell? =P
Yay my two favorite hipforumers came to terms...somewhat :-D lmao, you guys are great... I applaud the both of you on your strong opinions, and knowledge ^_^
Hikky Balance && Harmony. Libertine Think for yourself. Question authority. Are not both needed to find wisdom? Occam
Either you are someone raised Catholic who has faith that God does not exist. Or, you are an atheist who is atheist in general, or has a universal view on atheism, or whose interest in atheism is broad in scope and covers many areas. That is of course using the original definition of catholic, which means a view which is universal, comprehensive, or broad in taste and sympathies.
