I worked in a bowling alley. Maple up top, usually pine for the rest because the most abuse occurs where the hardwood is. I think they sometimes use polyurethane now, though.

Right on…I used to set up Sugar Maple timber sales in Wisconsin….much of went to Japan to be used on the upper part of the alleys during the Japanese bowling boom.
