I will tell you that a good Shepard usually does little more than keep restful awareness. If a wolf appears on the horizon, a simple wave of a hand or staff will cause the denizen to scatter. Jesus says no greater love has a man than to lay down his life for a friend, and that mastery is to lay ones life down and pick it up at will.

From the hearts abundance the mouth speaks. You have now shown what you think of Christians in general, what Jesus did and who your Father is.

How beautiful it is to do nothing, and then rest afterward...

I have shown what I think of the idea of sacrifice. And yes I have spoken with the abundance of my heart. What I have said is I love God with all my heart and strength and I love my brother as myself. Don't imagine that I find one child guilty, particularly not you. There is nothing that I have that I would withhold from you. I sent you a friend request, what did you do with it? What do I think of all of us? We know not what we do.

There is a wolf in sheeps clothing running amongst the flock. A wolf in sheeps clothing is any call to salvation that asks for sacrifice. This wolf pulls the wool over our eyes and charges us for the privilege. This exercise requires nothing more than restful awareness. No sweat here.

Yes you have finally spoken with the abundance of your heart and Yes, you have shown what you think of the idea of sacrifice but you have not shown what God thinks of sacrifice, God does not think Jesus' sacrifice was vulgar.
That is what you have said but it appears to be a false love like that of Peter when Peter took Jesus aside and commenced rebuking him, saying: “Be kind to yourself, Lord; you will not have this [destiny] at all.” And what did Jesus say to him? Jesus turned his back on him and he said to Peter: “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me, because you think, not God’s thoughts, but those of men.”
We are all sinners and are in need of the Christ's ransom sacrifice but you deny that there even is one and that those who do believe in it are part of a "vulgar little cult of human sacrifice". You say you love your bother but yet try to steal from him his only hope of salvation. By their fruits you shall know them.
And yet you try to stand between others and salvation.
I do not often check, why do you ask? Are you trying to make some kind of point?
Yes, Jesus said that of those who where putting him to death, not of those who have become his footstep followers, because of their carefully examining the Scriptures daily.

Well that would be waterbrother because Jesus loved his father, his father loves him and father did not ask him to sacrifice himself
. Would you require your son to sacrifice himself?

If you think Jesus was sacrificing himself you are thinking with men, not with him. Peter would be right wouldn't he, to defend his master if his master was in jeopardy. Don't you think he could have marshaled his angels to protect himself.
We are the innocent children of God who are in the throws of a dream of death and separation, a separation that happened only in a child's nightmare. You are welcome to your hope of salvation brother. I once had a hope for salvation, now I am redeemed in the teaching of Christ.

Oh really, how do I accomplish that waterbrother?
I asked because I was wondering, I'm thinking what does this guy have against me?
Jesus' words of course never apply to any of us because we are christians. Waterbrother, they apply especially to us. I tell you every time you tell a brother he has sinned you have crucified the sonship for the sins of men. Every time you stand eye to eye with a person you have a choice of whether he is your redeemer or your jailer. As you regard him, as you judge him you will be and are judged.

Can't believe this is still going on. Don't you find separating all the quotations tedious?

Way more than you can imagine. And I don't have the accumulated reference material he does, only my experience and my guide.

Sometimes I wonder if you have ever read the Bible. From the first to the last the Bible talks of the Sacrifice, you deny.
No. It is you that think man's thoughts just like Peter was, although you seem to be still telling Jesus man's thoughts, “Be kind to yourself, Lord; you will not have this [destiny] at all.”
Well, that's what Jesus said but he also said that he didn't because "how would the Scriptures be fulfilled that it must take place this way?"
Still trying to pass it all off as a dream world, you would make a good Hindu but God's word the Bible is for those who are awake.
Or so you would have others to believe.
Well Jesus sacrificed his life for us and you are not only calling it vulgar but are telling people that it never happened.
Getting a little paranoid in your old age?
Once again out of the heart's abundance your mouth speaks but God says; if we make the statement: “We have no sin,” we are misleading ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous so as to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we make the statement: “We have not sinned,” we are making him a liar, and his word is not in us.

Being the bigmouth that I am I'm gonna throw in my thoughts.
I think one thing that has been overlooked here in regards to Jesus' sacrifice is the fact that He was fulfilling multiple aspects of law and prophecy, according to the scriptures.

thedope, one of the main reasons, if not the main reason that Jesus' sacrificing himself is referred to as a "ransom" is because he was not only the sacrificial lamb whose blood was poured over the mercy seat, he was also the kinsman redeemer. The kinsman redeemer was a "kin" who could purchase a relative from slavery or pay their debts and the relative for whom this act was done was then freed and treated as though he was never in debt or a slave.

    For a little more on the role of the kinsman redeemer check this;

On another note you stated the following in another thread today :

regarding basically how people hear and read what they anticipate something to mean, regardless if the words, language and context support their pre-conceptions of meaning or not.

Do you not recognize yourself doing this very thing in regards to Biblical Scriptures?

I like conversing with you and often agree with what you say, but when it comes to Biblical references you fall into the camp of trying to force it to fit into your idea of what it says that would coincide with your belief system rather than just taking it at face value.
Of all the religious writings in the world, the Bible is really pretty straight forward in what it says, especially the New Testament. It always gives me a chuckle to see the mental and linguistic acrobatics people will go through to try to derive meanings from the Bible that it just does not say.
You can choose to believe it as written or not, that is a personal matter and I'm not out to convert anyone.
But at least have the integrity and sense to not try to twist and reinterpret what it says to support your personal views.

Just wanted to say thank you.

I know you didn't write this to support my views but in many ways much of what you say here is what I've tried to say all along but you just said it much better.

Sometimes I allow myself to get too close to the problem and when someone, who say they are a Christian, says here is no sacrifice, all I can think is the Bible is filled references to Jesus' sacrifice, so much so as to think, has this person even read the Bible. I mean, other than quoting the entire Bible for him, where do you start?

The real question is did God Say such a thing, not whether Jesus said such a thing.

The entire Bible is God's word not just the "red letter" words of Jesus.

So if God through his word the Bible says Jesus was a sacrifice, then Jesus was a sacrifice and it really doesn't matter that you think Jesus' sacrifice was vulgar or not.

What truly matters is how God feels about it and that just does not seem to matter to you.
