Well whenever I play music gigs, after the show or even between sets, many of us musicians like to 'critique' each other.

Seems to be real common to do the sandwich compliment. (ie here's what I like, here's what you can improve, and here's what else I like)
In such a critique you know how to improve, and what you did well, and you feel complimented over criticized.

With art in particular, I pretty much never say anything negative, even if I don't like it. Because it might just be outside my taste, and I picked this up from my dozens of art teachers over the year who can even cleverly compliment the worst artist.

Art classes are sort of boring aren't they? I have never been to one but I have read about them in college catalogs. I always get the impression that I would have a hard time.

Entirely dependent on the teacher, really, I hated all of mine with a passion. I'm told there are good ones around though.
