'Artificial leaf' successfully produces clean gas People have been working hard on finding cheap ways to extract carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and make fuels and plastics in particular, so the process can pay for itself. Oil is great stuff, but you still have to pump it out of the ground, ship it all over the world, and process the hell out it, while these guys have invented an artificial leaf that you throw in a pool of water and it uses sunlight to create clean gas out of pollution. Most notably, the gas they are creating is clean, with no by-products, and can be used to make countless plastic and other other products, making it more expensive to use oil. Its not a silver bullet for the greenhouse effect, but using it in conjunction with other approaches should enable us to avert complete disaster. There is already way too much greenhouse gas in the atmosphere for merely cutting back on emissions to save us from disaster.
